Giant in the Playground Forums Gaming Gaming (d20 and General RPG) PDA View Full Version : Help with a GURPS 3rd ed. weird west setting matrygg 04-15-2007, 01:57 PM I'm running a weird west game using GURPS 3rd ed. The setting is of my own design, and the way I've set things up is that the wierdness factor has just started in the gameworld over the past few years (since the golden spike ceremony, so for about 5 years). Most easterners are not aware of anything odd, and most folks west of the Mississippi have only seen one or two odd things, tops.
What I'm hoping for is ideas of things I can throw at the players in the way of situations, NPC's, and so forth. They are currently resting up in a town in in midwest after a botched random encounter with a steam-driven robot (since it was a random encounter, I didn't have the specific location pinned down but will before the next game). Anyone who knows of local stories of weird things that happened in the 1870's or so would really help out too.
As things stand, I'm going to have there be a town in the hills that are cultists of some kind of demon-god (I won't have the god show up, just the cultists). I also know that I want there to be Illuminati-type secret societies controlling things behind the scenes, and that one NPC I want them to run into is a Samurai who is searching for some sort of non-corporeal demon that travelled here with embassy staff. The latter two are more of a long-term thing; the former will happen over the next few adventures.

General RPG Forums General RPG Discussion PDA View Full Version : Ingredients for my Homebrew Ion 01-05-08, 10:33 PM The last time I played in a homebrew world of mine, I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the fact that outside of the small area the PCs were in, the majority of the world was a mystery. I liked discovering what was on the other side of the mountain pass along with the PCs. It was quite a fun game.
On the other hand, it never hurts to have an idea of where things fit into your world, so I've been brainstorming some ideas, or just more general concepts of how things are going to fit into the next homebrew I DM. Here is what I've got so far; please feel free to comment or list things you think are cool, etc.

He was placed as an infant in a basket and sent off down a river. There was a cupbearer and a dream. A commoner rose to lead his nation. An epic was written. Have you read this story? You probably have, although not in its original form Shamelessly borrowed from this post by DovBear Posted at 12:39 PM in History Permalink

yes, I have many of the stories written in the bible including the Noah story and many others where
told and written about in other cultures many many years before the Torah was written. In addition, many of the laws written in Shemot are copied and or very similar Code of Hammurabi written many ages before the Torah was written. Could it be that the Torah was written by people and just copied from other cultures . January 15, 2007 at 01:06 PM No, it wasn't copied. Did the Aboriginal Americans copy Noach or Adam? That two separate cultures share similar themes in their legends doesn't necessarily entail imitation. I even get offended when atheists accuse Xtians of this.
