The formal coalition comprises of the Labour Party and the Progressive Party, but the New Zealand First and United Future parties provide confidence and supply to Labour in return for their leaders being ministers outside of cabinet. The leader of the opposition is John Key, who is the leader of the National Party. The ACT Party and the Maori Party are also in opposition of the Government. The Labour Party has been the only political party to govern New Zealand in the twenty first century, after winning the 1999, 2002 and 2005 elections.
