PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM PLUS ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAM OPTION
At the College of Eastern Utah, nursing theory is correlated with knowledge from the biological, physical and behavioral sciences. Qualified nurse educators guide students in theory, laboratory practice, and clinical experiences that utilize acute care hospitals, extended-care facilities, clinics, the home, an other health related environments. The ADN and PN programs are accredited through the National League for Nursing Accreditation Council (NLNAC).
Students have two options in nursing education. Students can attend one year of classes to obtain a Certificate of Completion in Practical Nursing, then enter the job market or, if they are interested and qualified, continue with a second year to obtain an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. LPN's who desire to continue their nursing education can also apply for placement entrance in the Associate degree program.

The Board of Nursing, with the help of its staff, determines licensure and certification requirements; interprets the Oregon Nurse Practice Act; evaluates and approves nursing education programs and nursing assistant training programs; issues licenses and renewals; investigates complaints and takes disciplinary action against nurses and nursing assistants who violate the Oregon Nurse Practice Act; maintains the nursing assistant registry; and, administers nursing assistant competency evaluations.

The professional nurse uses theory and research-based knowledge to provide direct and indirect care to individuals, families, groups, and communities. In the role as designer, manager, and coordinator of care, nurses collaborate with patients and interdisciplinary care teams. The department offers an undergraduate program which leads to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a postbaccalaureate School Nurse Services Credential Program with an option to pursue the master's degree in nursing, a graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Post-Master's Nurse Practitioner Credential Program.     Nursing
    The baccalaureate nursing program is a four year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Graduates are eligible to apply for the national licensing examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse (RN). The Master of Science in Nursing (MS) and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) are graduate degrees offered in nursing.
    The Program
    The mission of the nursing program is to provide professional nursing education, advance knowledge of the discipline and serve as a resource for the health care needs of society. The nursing curriculum prepares professional nurses by providing a sound educational base for practice, graduate study, professional development and accepting professional and civic responsibility. The nursing program serves as a resource for society through consultation, collaboration, political involvement and scholarship.
    Career Opportunities
    Rapid changes in health care and technology require the nursing profession to continually expand its role. Employment forecasts predict an increasing demand for professional nurses. Career opportunities include positions in hospitals, schools, community agencies, the military, insurance companies, nursing homes, clinics, businesses and research settings. Graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings which demand critical thinking, autonomy, collaboration and accountability.

    The Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. An accelerated program has offered Licensed Vocational Nurses admission into the 2nd year of the major as well as other advanced standing applications. All advanced standing applicants are admitted on a space available basis. Upon satisfactory completion of the major, students are eligible for the Registered Nurse License Examination. The program prepares graduates who can contribute to the advancement of nursing science and influence changes in a variety of settings within the health care system.
