Welcome Message

In Syriac, Margoneetho means 'a pearl'. Syriac Christian literature depicts the pearl variously, as a symbol of our Lord, faith and the human soul. Like an exquisite pearl hidden in an oyster, the spiritual heritage of the Syriac Orthodox Church, one of the most ancient Christian churches, remains obscure to much of the world today. The Margoneetho : Syriac Orthodox Resources web site attempts to illuminate this rich and ancient heritage.
SOR is not an "official" web Site of the Syriac Orthodox Church, but receives encouragement and support from its hierarchy. Bread for the Soul Recent Publications Rev. Stephen Griffith Reports
Rev. Griffith routinely visits Tur `Abdin and reports on the state of the Syriac Orthodox community. Reports of his visits from 1999-2001 are published here.

Any practice or teaching that falls within the established framework of the conventions, beliefs and doctrines of a given religious tradition. Glossary of Important Terms This page is devoted to the Orthodox File Managers (OFMs) that are also known as "Commanders". They are remote descendants of Norton Commander written by John Socha and first released in 1986. Members of this family of file managers with the most prominent example of FAR on Windows and Mc in Unix use simple yet very powerful command line windows managers with file management capabilities that use three windows: two symmetrical windows with listings of files in two possibly separate directories called panels and one "terminal style" windows that initially is minimized to one (bottom) line. Modern OFM interface is a " screen " inspired generalization of Norton Commander (NC) interface and preserved "look and feel" of the original program with its ability to shrink and manipulate visibility of left and right panel windows as well as expand command window (preferably gradually but at least to half-screen and full-screen).

    Notes on the Orthodox Easter
    History
Between AD326 and AD1582, Christianity determined Easter using an algorithm approved by a Church Council in AD325, with the equinox defined as March 21. From AD1054 (when the Orthodox and Catholic Churches split) through AD1582 both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches celebrated Easter on the same date, still using the algorithm from AD325. The Julian Calendar was used by the European (and Christan) communities until the Gregorian reform of 1582. Since AD1582 October (when the Gregorian Calendar was adopted by much of Catholic Europe), the Orthodox Easter usually falls on dates different than the Western Christian Easter, although apparently the Churches are discussing using the same formula to determine Easter - probably a formula different than that currently used by either Church. The Orthodox Easter is determined in the Julian Calendar. It has been claimed that Orthodox Easter does not fall on the date of Passover (15 Nisan in the Hebrew Calendar), or before it; this is true recently, but using the modern formulae for determining the date of Passover (rules which go back to the fourth century A.D.), one finds that, in fact, Easter occurred on the first day of Passover several times before the year A.D. 1000. From 1900 until 2099 the Eastern Easter will fall one (45.5%), four (4.5%), or five (21.5%) weeks after the Western Easter - and on the same date in 57 (28.5%) of those years. (I've compiled some
