Renaissance Art
The Renaissance was between 1400 A.D. to 1600 A.D. It began in the city states of Italy. The Renaissance means "rebirth" in French. This art reflected back to the classical time of Rome and Greece. This reflection back to the Greek and Romans was not limited to the arts, but all fields like literature, science, and architecture began to look back to the ancients for their inspiration. One of the major influences in the Renaissance was the change in the social structure of Europe at this time. Before the Renaissance, there were primarily three different social levels; the nobility, the churchmen, and the peasants. During the Renaissance Era a merchant class developed. These wealthy merchants would often hire artists to decorated family chapels in the local church or cathedral. Guilds (or groups of craftworks) would often compete with other guilds in the town by sponsoring large art projects. Later the arts were supported by rich patrician families. In the Renaissance, we see the first oil painting on canvas. It was also a time where the paintings took on three dimensions by the use of shadow and light. The subject matter included mythical subjects and nature scenes. Artists tried to show differences in proportions (meaning size and location of one thing compared to another in the painting) of their subject matter.

The Vision of Faust ) by Luis Riccardo Fal©ro The Renaissance French : "rebirth," Italian Rinascimento "), was a cultural movement that spanned roughly the through the 17th century , beginning in Italy in the late Middle Ages and later spreading to the rest of Europe . It encompassed the revival of learning based on classical sources, the rise of courtly and papal patronage , the development of perspective in painting, advancements in science , and the arrival of print culture . The Renaisance had wide-ranging consequences in all intellectual pursuits, but is perhaps best known for its artistic aspect and the contributions of such polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo , who have inspired the term " Renaissance men edit

Important Renaissance works The sculptor Donatello created a life-size statue of a soldier on horseback, This work of art took place during the Renaissance of Italy.
  • Competition for the Baptistry Doors
In 1401, a competition was held to find a sculptor to make a huge set of bronze door for the oldest church in Florence . Lorenzo Ghiberti , Filippo Brunelleschi and Donatello all entered the competition. Ghiberti won. When he finished the first set of doors, he had to make another set. It took fifty years. In that time, dozens of artists helped Ghiberti to make the doors.
  • Brancacci Chapel
On the walls of this family chapel at the church of the Carmelite Monastry, Massaccio painted pictures which were so realistic that everyone was amazed.
  • The statue of the Smug Cat
The most famous sculptor of the Early Renaissance was Donatello. His most important job was to make a huge equestrian monument of a soldier (on horseback). The soldier's was called by his nick-name, Gattamelata, meaning the Smug Cat (a Cat who is fed on Honey). Donatello had seen a huge equestrian monument before; there is one in Rome of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. No-one had made such a big bronze statue for more than a thousand years. Donatello's statue was a huge success. It still stands outside the Basilica of Sant' Antonio, in the city of Padua.

Renaissance Art – Italian, Early Renaissance Art Prints at Imagekind
Renaissance art, in all forms and places of origin, marked a rebirth of culture, ideas, and expectations. Within the well-known Italian Renaissance art period, encompassing Early Renaissance art and High Renaissance art, the important aspects of this transformation remained the same. Creators of Renaissance art were interested in new forms of thinking, passion, invention, and exploration of the cultures they were representing.
Although one of the most important aspects of Renaissance art was a new perspective in the way paintings were created and the way they were viewed, many amazing pieces of sculpture and architecture were being formed as well. Some of the most famous, beloved, and intriguing pieces of artwork came out of these time periods and in mass amounts. Even today, most people know who Leonardo da Vinci was and something about his contributions to Renaissance art. Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Donatello are also among the most well-known of the many Italian Renaissance artists and each brought their own ideas and creativity to the world.
Renaissance art showed many ideas and environments, yet there were a few things that most of the well-known artists spent much time depicting. Religion and realism of the human form seemed to be foremost in the minds of these artists as they painted or sculpted. All of the artists mentioned above created many images showing religious scenes or relating religious stories from legend or the Bible. New techniques involving drafting and sketches were also created to make creating the human body more realistic.
