Some people experience a serious mood change when the seasons change. They may sleep too much, have little energy, and crave sweets and starchy foods. They may also feel depressed. Though symptoms can be severe, they usually clear up.

It's 5:11 in the PM on the busiest shopping day of the Year.
There is a rock show at the Re-Education Center in w/r...lotsa bands...and we're not one of them. I was gonna check it out, but i'm not much for metal...and there are only 2 bands worth seeing: Downplay and Light's Out, and suffering through the obligatory 'Devestating Tribal Metal Brutality' scares me beyond words.
A sad foot-note in tres nefarious history occurred recently:
Joseph Alcario Melchor II, writer of such timelesspop ditties such as 'Blackfire: Oh My!' and the only member of ze bandpast and presentto ever be slapped by a girl while playing a song(back in Shiprock in '98) has shaved his Whaler's Beard.
He compromised the only interesting aspect of the ensemble that welcomed the eyes of onlookers like an old friend( or Gregory Peck on a vodka binge). In its prime,
the whaler's beard could draw attention away from our shitty tunes long enough for us to make a clean getaway. In its stead, Mr. Melchor opted for a razor-back mohawk...him being 24 or 25( joe's got 2 birth certificates, i shit you not!) i think he's going through a mid-life crisis. But the mohawkshocking as it maybe to saaniis and cheis' the rez-overhas nothing on the Whaler's Beard. At work, Joe's mohawk is sure to find appreciators of the genus: Minerus Diggerus Crackus, and i'm sure he'll finally get laid.
Saddened by this development, i have attempted to grow my own beard in a pathetic attempt to vainly capture our fading glory.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is a mood disorder that is associated with episodes of depression. It is thought to be related to seasonal light variations. (www.nmha.org) It is a subtype of a major depressive disorder, also known as bipolar disorder. SAD has biological origins that are seasonal in nature. (www.clevelandclinic.org) The most common type of SAD begins in late fall or early winter. This depression is gone by summer. This type of depression is also known as the winter blues. There is a less common type of SAD known as summer depression that begins in late spring or early summer. This depression goes away by winter. (familydoctor.org) The possible cause of this disorder is linked to melatonin. The pineal gland in the brain secretes this sleep-related hormone. Its level of production is increased in the dark. Thus when the days become shorter and darker there is a greater production of the melatonin hormone.(www.nmha.org) Who suffers from SAD? Those in the highest group of sufferers are women and young children. (www.nmha.org) Many SAD sufferers come from families where either a close relative or a parent has suffered from SAD. Women are most susceptible to depression than men so it is not odd that themajority of SAD sufferers are women. In fact 75% of all people who experience SAD are women. This is an indescriminate mood disorder however in that it efects people of all classes, races and occupations. Men and children can also suffer from SAD. It is found in both the northern and southern hemisphere but gets worse the further from the equator. The problem being the length of day from summer to winter. In America 10% of the population are thought to suffer from SAD. (www.holistic-online.com)

    Seasonal Affective Disorder
Home Articles Health SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) was first described more than ten years ago by Dr Norman E. Rosenthal, himself a sufferer. He recommended long hours in front of a light box as a cure. (A light box is a portable box fitted with powerful electric lights.) However, this was often difficult for sufferers to fit into their busy lives. Moreover, there was a risk of overexposure to harmful ultra violet rays. Since then, light therapy has been improved. Stronger lights (with no ultraviolet rays) can be used for shorter periods of time: many patients now get good results from only half an hour in front of high-intensity light boxes.

Seasonal Affective Disorder - "Winter" Depression
Many of us have decidedly unsunny dispositions. by John McManamy I stood in a steady drizzle, the rain beating on my exposed head like a Chinese water torture. But my physical discomfort was nothing compared to the subtle process taking place from within the other side of my skull. Months before, without knowing it, I had said goodbye to the sun forever, and it was beginning to have a very pronounced effect on my psyche. In the fall of 1975 I had moved to Vancouver to be with my fianc©e. There, in Kitsalano, where the hippies hung out, one could wake up to a breathtaking view of the ships in the harbor and the snow-capped mountains behind North Vancouver. But nine days out of ten, the clouds dropped to treetop level, discharging a light mist that carried the intoxicating scents of the nearby forests into the city but also creating a filmy shroud that settled over every landmark in the vicinity. "They took away the mountains," I would half-joke to my fianc©e, not used to a force that could turn mighty peaks invisible. Then December approached, and with it a Stygian darkness that descended at four in the afternoon and snuffed out the murky gray that passed for light in this part of the world.
