The Masonic Connection In the Foundation of the 7th Day Adventist Church Ellen G. White: A Brief Biography by Arthur L. White
During the first few weeks following their marriage, James and Ellen gave earnest study to a 46-page tract published by Joseph Bates, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The tract, entitled Seventh-day Sabbath, set forth the Biblical evidence for the sacredness of the seventh day. Convinced that the views set forth were scriptural, they began to keep Saturday as the Sabbath. Some six months later, on April 3, 1847, Ellen White was shown in vision the law of God in the heavenly sanctuary, with a halo of light around the fourth commandment. This view brought a clearer understanding of the importance of the Sabbath doctrine, and confirmed the confidence of the Adventists in it. (Early Writings, pp. 32-35.) http://www.whiteestate.org/about/egwbio.asp
Chapter 26 Joseph Bates Auto Biography
...It is now twenty-three years since we commenced keeping the Sabbath of the Lord, since which time we have endeavored to teach it to others, both in private and by public labors, by the fireside and from the sacred desk. We have presented this and kindred truths in New England, many of the Western States, and the Canadas, and our labors have been blessed by seeing scores and hundreds turn from the traditions of men to the observance of all of God's commandments.
By the untiring efforts of our esteemed brother, Eld. James White, and his companion, who were pioneers in this work, there is now established in the city of Battle Creek, Mich., a well-furnished Office of Publication, owned and controlled by the "Seventh-day Adventist Publishing Association," a corporate body engaged in the publication of this message. The Association employs two power presses in carrying on its business, and issues "The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald," weekly, "The Youth's Instructor," monthly, "The Health Reformer," monthly, and a large assortment of books and tracts on various Bible subjects.

Back
Homepage Up Next ... What's New There is a religious group that been around since the 1800's that's made a specialty of only groveling to Biblegod on one certain day of the week: Saturday . In fact, they think that to the Lord God Almighty, this is just about THE most important issue in the whole universe. Anyway, me being the evil Atheist that I am, some questions came to my mind...
  • IF an asteroid were to hit the earth and speed up its rotation to the point where each day would be equal to 60 seconds, would the Seventh Day Adventists who were able to hold on and not get slung into outer space be looking for a place to grovel every seven minutes? "Oh damn! My timer went off again, out of my way!!! Gotta grovel!!!" The actual rotation of the earth slows down every year. If the world was "created" 6,000 years ago, or 4 billion years ago, the length of days, and thus also the weeks, may have changed drastically from what it was originally. Given that, shouldn't Adventists be using whatever increment of time was valid WHEN these "days" were originally set up? Maybe they should be groveling every 5.3417655 days, rather than every 7 days? Have they thought about this? Eventually we will have colonies living on the moon. A full day cycle on the moon is equal to about 30 day cycles on the earth. Therefore, one week on the moon would be equal to about 210 days on the earth. Given that, would Adventists living on the moon be groveling according to MOON days (once about every seven earth months) or Earth days (about 4 times a month)?

In response to this post Hi there, Vicki. Let me just clear some things up before I respond to your comments. (1) I have never contended that "Mormonism is Christianity." Such a statement would be absurd as the two classifications apply on totally different levels. The issue is whether Mormonism would be correctly classified as a Christian religion. The distinction may seem trivial but it is crucial to understanding the debate. (2) I have never contended that Mormonism is consistent with the Bible or the New Testament, or indeed any of the LDS "standard works." I will accept as a given that Mormon theology is not entirely consistent with N.T. teachings. I should add that I don't know of any religion that is. (3) I don't have a problem with Mormonism being classified as a non-Christian religion. However, to do this I need two things: a credible definition of Christianity, and an explanation of how Mormonism fails to meet the definition. If you provide me with this information I would gladly concede. I don't appreciate the tone of your reply here, Dan, since the comment that I made had to do with the fraudulent practices of Joseph Smith and you incorporated it into your definition. I didn't correct you and you capitalized on that in laying out your definition. The Character of JS is an entirely separate issue and has no bearing on my assessment that Mormonism is not Christianity. I could have pointed out that separation but I was more interested in discussing the theology which I did when I presented my position and supporting evidence. As it was, we were discussing Mormonism specifically and I included a comment about Joseph Smith which again, you chose to incorporate into your definition. The fraudulent practices of Joseph Smith are evidence that the scriptures that Mormonism is based on are counterfeit. That is NOT a factor in determining whether or not Mormonism is Christianity.

Seventh Day Adventists - The Sabbath Why have I chosen to keep the Sabbath References Seventh Day Adventists In 1993 I left St. Maarten for Florida and I was introduced to the Seventh Day Adventist boarding school and Church. Now, this was quite interesting to me because I already had some uneducated premonitions of the church and its beliefs. Looking at Adventists through the non-denominational church I saw people that were for the most part very conservative in their lifestyle and behavior, and were particularly set apart from the fact that they worshipped on Saturday and not Sunday. Ellen G. White . Contrary to belief, not all Adventists are vegetarians, and many do also wear jewelry. While there is nothing wrong with being conservative, the extreme of it can be a very damaging factor. The fundamental creed of Christianity is following God's call for us to be examples of Christ. This calls for us to live, act and behave differently than those who are not. Christianity calls for an abstaining from alcohol and drugs, things which alter states of mind or behavior. Some would say "well, what then do you do for fun?" and thus the stereotyping of Christians begins with believing that we don't have fun and are conservative. Then there are people that drink, take drugs and party and still claim to be Christians. How is that possible? Being a Christian does not mean that one automatically becomes "perfect", but we all strive towards living a better quality life. As a result I have made a moral choice to lead a somewhat conservative life.

The concept of the Godhead or Trinity deserves a closer look – specifically a look at each member of the Trinity. Part 1 of a series of three articles looks more closely at Seventh-day Adventist beliefs concerning God the Father.
    Christ's Atonement

A key aspect of SDA belief is the belief in the atoning purpose of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.
    God as Creator

Seventh-day Adventists believe that God is the Creator of all things and that the Bible reveals an accurate account of how He created the world we live in and the human race.
    Growing in Christ

The Eleventh Fundamental Belief, Growing in Christ, is a newly adopted belief coming out of the Seventh-day Adventist 2005 General Conference Session recently held in St. Louis, Missouri. Building on the statement about Salvation, this belief personalizes that salvation within each individual’s life.
    Man’s Relationship to God

Seventh-day Adventists believe that man was created in the image of God.

    Seventh Day Adventists
by Sebastian R. Fama The main difference between Seventh Day Adventists and other Protestants is their adherence to Sabbath worship. They reason that since Exodus 20:19 establishes Saturday as the Jewish Sabbath, Christians ought to worship on Saturday. They rightfully claim that the Catholic Church changed the day of worship from the Sabbath (Saturday) to the Lord’s Day (Sunday). However, they wrongfully claim that such an act was illicit. Scripture speaks of an Old Covenant and a New Covenant. The Old Covenant was in effect until the coming of the Messiah [Jesus]. Once Jesus came He established a New Covenant. In Matthew 16:19 Jesus gives Peter the power to legislate in Church matters: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Under the New Covenant many things would change. For example, baptism would replace circumcision (Colossians 2:11-12), divorce would no longer be permitted (Mark 10:2-12), and animals would no longer need to be sacrificed (Hebrews 9:1-14). The day of worship would also change. At first, the main day of worship for Christians was on Saturday. That’s because the first Christians were Jews. At some point

Mr. Pickel takes offence to the documentation of the video "Seventh-day Adventism" The Spirit behind the Church" which we were involved in the production of. He also unmercifly attacks Jeremiah Films on another page. The fact is, Jeremiah Films was hired to do the video shoot and editing but had no part in the content presented in this video and should not be included in his critiques. A couple of things I want to point out. Mr. Pickel is not speaking officially for the SDA church. The church never contacted us or has ever disputed the credibility of the video in any way. Many SDA pastors and churches have ordered copies of the video, we have never had any feed back from them in any way.
