ORIGIN OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM Our solar system originated from the accumulation of particles condensed from gasses ejected by stars, such as red giants and supernova explosions. These particles accumulated into a cloud of dispersed matter or nebula. Particles were attracted to each other due to the force of gravity which caused this matter to condense. As it condensed it became a rotating disc and temperatures rose. Most of the material formed a central bulge that condensed into a central star, the Sun . In case you would like to know How the Sun Shines- click here The rest formed a thin rotating disc of matter from which planets and asteroids formed. The details of the origin are outlined at The Nine Planets , a multimedia tour of the solar system that provides an overview of the history, mythology, and current scientific knowledge of each of the planets and moons in our solar system. P luto is the smallest planet in the solar system and is usually the furthest from the Sun Neptune is sometimes closer). The name is derived from the Roman mythological god of the underworld, Hades since Pluto is so far from the Sun and receives so little light. Because Pluto is so far away, it was not discovered until 1930 by an American astronomer. To this day, it remains the only planet not yet visited by a spacecraft. Currently, NASA scientists plan to send the Pluto Express to rendezvous with the planet sometime in the year 2007. Much of the data acquired of Pluto came from extensive astronomical observations that revealed its orbit, relationship with Charon (its only satellite) and spin axis. The Hubble Space Telescope also played a major role in determining Pluto's planetary characteristics. To this date, Pluto's radius is not precisely determined. It is estimated to be 1137 with an error of + or - 8 (one percent). Pluto's equator is almost at right angles to the plane of its orbit, much like Uranus . On the surface, the temperature is a bitter 35 to 45 Kelvins (-228 to -238 degrees Celsius).

Well, try this URL:
http://www.geocities.com/decschultz/ispit.html
... I have five planets (MCs) moving around the sun (over a Guide Layer). Each name of the planet has it's own button which, when pressed, sets the MC property - Alpha to 50 % and planets continue to move.
I have done it all except when I set the MC's Alpha property to 50% that MC changes the Alpha but also STOPS!
That's the problem
Thanks in advance

Sizing Up Your Solar System
The National Solar Observatory is developing one of the larger models of the solar systems in the nation in New Mexico. It will stretch from Sunspot to Cloudcroft and Alamogordo. When complete, the Sunspot Solar System Model will include signs indicating the relative distances of the planets from Sunspot as you drive down NM 6563, the Sunspot Scenic Byway, and models of the Sun and planets at your destination, the Sunspot Astronomy and Visitor's Center. The model will focus on the Sun (our scientific mission) and the planets. Lesson plans Sizing Up Your Solar System are being developed so teachers and students can get the most value from the experience of visiting the model, either in person or on line. Many of the exercises are scaled to units of Earth = 1 or Sun = 1. A PDF copy of the exercises will be available in a few weeks (with the proviso that this is a work in progress). The Sunspot Solar System Model will be designed to attract visitors to Sunspot and to our education programs about our mission in studying the Sun and looking for the sources in solar variability, including sunspots, flares, coronal mass ejections, and other activities that affect life on Earth. The scale of the model is 1:250 million was set by matching the average Sun-Neptune distance to the distance from the Sunspot Astronomy and Visitor's Center in Sunspot to the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. The orbit of Pluto is eccentric enough that by rotating the outlines of the orbits, Pluto passes through the village of Cloudcroft. At this scale, Earth is 2 inches in diameter, Jupiter is 21.6 inches in diameter, and the Sun is 18.25 feet in diameter. The nearest star is 96,200 miles away.

So Pluto is no longer a planet, does it really matter?
August 31st, 2006 Daily Dose Science 7 Comments I mean with Pluto no longer a regular planet, do I have to change something about my lifestyle of least my everyday routines? I think not, do you? I told my friend of this little question of mine and he told me that it was unlike me, it was unscientific for me as a Bio student and a science geek to ask this question. Am I wrong? I asked him the same question, ¢â‚¬Å“Will Pluto¢â‚¬â„¢s demotion affect your life?¢â‚¬Â He just stood still and shrugged his shoulders. For once, I¢â‚¬â„¢m not trying to be a geek, I¢â‚¬â„¢m just being practical. Just the same, some one please tell me if I¢â‚¬â„¢m wrong to think like this and ask such questions. 7 Comments
