The Sufi sees the truth in every religion If invited to offer prayers in a church, a mosque, a synagogue, or a temple, the Sufi is ready to do so, knowing that all people worship the same God, the Only Being, no matter what Name they use. Yet the Sufi's true house of worship is the human heart, in which the Divine Beloved lives. Sufism is a religion for those who wish to learn religion from it, a philosophy for those wanting wisdom from it, a mystical path for any who would be guided by it to the unfoldment of the Soul, and yet it is beyond all these things. It is the Light of Life, which is the sustenance of every soul. Sufism is the Message of Love, Harmony, and Beauty All photographs, images, graphics, and written material, except as individually noted,

About the Power of Memory
By Hugh Thomson, "In Arabian Nights, by Tahir Shah" The Independent - London, England, UK
Friday, May 23, 2008
There comes a time when even travel writers no longer feel like travelling; they return home, exhausted, to explore their roots.
Tahir Shah, who has described his exotic adventures in Peru, India and Ethiopia, has reached that stage.
His previous book, The Caliph's House, began the process, describing life in his home in Casablanca. But a recent experience in Pakistan's North West frontier accelerated it.
Arrested with his film crew on suspicion of spying for al-Qa'ida, he was held in an interrogation centre called "The Farm" and subjected to weeks of sustained cross-questioning. What sustained him were memories of the stories he was told in Morocco as a child.
Tahir Shah is a storyteller's son; his Afghan father Idries Shah achieved fame in the West with The Way of the Sufi, collected Arab stories, and came from a long line of writers.
While Tahir has told many a traveller's tale over 12 books, this is perhaps the first time he comes so consciously into his family's inheritance.

The primary activity of the Sufi Healing Order is spiritual healing. We offer "The Healing Service", a group prayer circle asking the Divine One to heal those who ask this of us, through ritual, prayer, and attunement to the Divine Spirit. The Healing Service offers the possibility of healing to those who request it. Members of the Sufi Healing Order also visit the ill, those in distress, and the infirm, bringing them the Divine Presence as a balm and a healing, as well as offering personal care and support. Members receive training in spiritual healing and integrate this into their personal and professional wellness counselling. Membership
Membership into the Sufi Healing Order is offered through an initiation ritual. This initiation links one to a transmission of healing consciousness, energy, and attunement offered by the Sufi mystics, both ancient and modern. This activity was brought to the West in 1910 by the great Sufi master Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan . The initiation, which is freely offered, is a covenant between the individual who feels called to a sacred healing ministry and the Divine Spirit.

We are a traditional, Islamic order whose origins started with two great Saints of early Sufism: Abdul Qadir al Geylani and Ahmed ar Rifai. Our Tradition is one of inclusiveness and of welcoming. As Sufi poet Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi (circa 1200 ACE) says; Come, Come whoever you are, wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. Our's is not a caravan of despair. Come even if you have broken your vows a thousand times, Come, come yet again. In this site we present our understanding on the issues and knowledge inherent to a spiritual path from a Sufi perspective. We have divided this information into four sections. In the section titled Qadiri Rifai Sufi Order you will find information on our purpose, our history and our teachers.

Sufi's are lovers of the truth. Through love and devotion they seek to become one with their beloved. Through poetry many of the great Sufi mystics have been able to encapsulate and share their spiritual experiences.
The appeal of Sufi poetry is universal, great Sufi Poets such as Rumi, Hafiz and Omar Khayyam are appreciated by both Sufi's and non Sufi's alike. This is because their poetry expresses the universal aspirations of spiritual seekers .

SOUTH ASIAN HISTORY Pages from the history of the Indian sub-continent: Islamic Religion and Culture, Sufism Sufi Currents and Civilization in the Islamic Courts No serious examination of the civilizations that flourished in the courts of the Islamic rulers is possible without an understanding of Sufi currents that played a vital - even decisive role in shaping the cultural output of the great Islamic empires. As any student of world history may note, civilization typically comes to a grinding halt wherever the writ of a revealed religion runs supreme. For any civilization to blossom, there has to be a certain intellectual and cultural space that is relatively free from dogma and hidebound traditions. In the earliest examples of the Islamic courts, particularly during the reign of the Abbasids in Baghdad, there was an informal separation of church and state and Arab civilization was able to make important gains , drawing inputs from a variety of eclectic sources - both indigenous and external (such as Indian and Mediterranean). But once the paramountcy of the Quran and the Shariat laws began to be more strictly enforced - the Islamic courts needed some alternate current to prevent the newly established Islamic societies from slipping into the dark ages as had occurred in the Christian kingdoms of early medieval Europe. Sufism thus emerged as a protestant and liberalizing current, that eventually became the primary vehicle for intellectual advance and the dissemination of culture in societies governed by Islamic sovereigns.

    Abd-al-Rahman Al Sufi (December 7, 903 - May 25, 986 A.D.)
Abd-al-Rahman Al Sufi (or Abr-ar Rahman As Sufi, or - according to R.H. Allen (1899) - Abd al Rahman Abu al Husain, sometimes referred to as Azophi) was living at the court of the Emire Adud ad-Daula in Isfahan (Persia), and working on astronomical studies based on Greek work, especially the Almagest of Ptolemy . He contributed several corrections to Ptolemy's star list, in particular he did own brightness/magnitude estimates which frequently deviated from those in Ptolemy's work. Also, he was the first to attempt to relate the Greek with the traditional arabic star names and constellations, which was difficult as these constellations were completely unrelated and overlapped in a complicated way. Al Sufi published his famous "Book of Fixed Stars" in 964 ( Al Sufi, 964 ), describing much of his work, both in textual descriptions and pictures. In his descriptions and pictures of Andromeda , he included " A Little Cloud " which is actually the Andromeda Galaxy M31 . He mentions it as lying before the mouth of a Big Fish, an Arabic constellation. This "cloud" was apparently commonly known to the Isfahan astronomers, very probably before 905 AD.

Bay Street Press is pleased to announce the American publication of Master of the Jinn, a mystical adventure and eloquent portrayal of the Sufi path of Love. "My heart has become capable of every form; it is a pasture for gazelles and a convent for Christian monks, and a temple for idols and the pilgrim's Ka'ba, and the tablets of the Torah and the book of the Koran. I follow the religion of Love: whatever way Love's camels take, that is my religion and my faith."
    - Ibn al-Arabi Here is a tale set on the Path of the Heart, a mystical adventure wherein a modern-day Sufi master sends seven companions on a quest for the original Ring of Power, and the greatest treasure of the ancient world - King Solomon's ring. It is the very same seal ring of a hundred legends, given to King Solomon by God to command the Jinn, those terrifying demons of living fire.
By sea and across deserts, they are led by a strange faqir guide of many names. Through the mightiest of storms and into a lost city, the travelers come at last to the gateway of the Subtle Realm, the land of the Jinn.
But the quest has a strange effect on everyone chosen to go: visions enter their dreams, remembrances and tears fill their hearts, and mysteries abound; unearthly storms and unending night, the Gates of Heaven open

Those who try hiking both these paths will find that they do, indeed, criss-cross here and there, run along a few ridges together, and part in other places. These paths can lead to a real destination, unlike most of the trails that meander about the trackless wastes that we call our lives. By their very nature, the Gurdjieff Work and Sufism are related. This site will explore the particulars of this relationship and the many synergies that exist between these two great teaching systems.

Sufi and `Irfan Links Sufism is a set of Traditions related to Islamic Mysticism Sufism is the attempt of the individual mystic to achieve union with the divine Beloved, the Absolute from which human beings are separated by their base selves. It typically involves a regimen of at least moderate self-denial, regular prayers, supplications, and the recitation of spiritual formulas and the divine names, and group chanting and textual study. Among the greatest of Sufis were Rabi`a of Baghdad, Junayd, al-Hallaj, Bayazid Bistami, al-Ghazali, Ibn al-`Arabi and Jalalu'd-Din Rumi. `Irfan is a later, especially Iranian and Shi`ite tradition of mysticism that is more individualist and more metaphysically oriented than many of the formal Sufi orders in Sunnism. Great figures here include Mir Damad, Mulla Sadra, Muhsin Fayz Kashani, and Shaykh Ahmad al-Ahsa'i.
