There are 3 basic things that we could do, separately or in combination: 1. We could display (ie, give people a chance to try out) various 3d books, toys, viewing systems, and perhaps even cameras. This would be pretty free-form. Could include anything from old ViewMasters, the over-under viewer, the little 3d drawing toy, the EyeWitness stuff, the new Tool CD, ancient stereo cards, whatever). 2. We could show the two super-cheap ways to get started in 3d photography, which are: a. By using a single digital camera and a steady hand to take pictures of things that don't move ('cha cha') b. By taking a pair of disposable film cameras and strapping them together with packing tape and something firm and flat to rest them on. This is a great approach that really gives people a chance to see if they like this game; the only catch is that it's film, so you have to process it. Hence no instant results. In association with David Burder of "3D Images " Les spent 2 years developing several camera systems in both full and half frame 35 mm format. Kate's ITP Blog Main 3D Photography For this week's assignment, I experimented with 3D photography. As we learned in class, I achieved the 3D effect (which can be observed using a 3D viewer) in the shots below by taking a shot, then repositioning my tripod four inches to the right and recentering the frame. In the last image, I found that the effect worked best when I moved my tripod just two inches, due to the shorter distance between the camera and the subject. I'm finding that my camera tends to underexpose most shots in Tv and Av modes, particularly indoors, so I've compensated here by manually increasing the exposure. The first shot was tricky because it was taken at night with a bright light source in the center, so I chose to split the middle and left the surroundings underexposed and the center overexposed. Not sure if there would be a better solution for thisI probably would have experimented with a low flash if it hadn't been outside a neighbor's house at night... As a final note, I continue to struggle with getting proper white balance, even using the grey card, within my apartment. If I had to guess, I'd say it's due to the fact that none of our paint or lampshades are truly white, so it may be that the camera is balancing correctly despite the yellow cast to most of my shots.
