and in the developed world In one year alone, 868 teens in a ten-county area of Northeast Georgia became pregnant and 671 gave birth. This is an obvious issue of concern, not only to the teens, but also to their families, communities, and society as a whole. Teen pregnancy is closely linked to a number of other critical issues, including overall child and family well-being. Simply put, if more children were born to parents who are ready and able to care for them, we would see a significant reduction in a host of social problems, from school failure and poverty to child abuse and neglect. Therefore, the goal of teenage pregnancy prevention is not only to prevent unplanned/unwanted pregnancies, but also to help adolescents grow up healthy, educated, employable, and connected to their families and communities. | |
