21. Public Agenda Special Report: Terrorism
Public opinion polls and analyses related to what Americans are willing to do as part of the war on terrorism.
Last updated May 25, 2005 Overview
There has not been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil since the fall of 2001. Yet the possibility is ever-present and guides much of what we do as a society. The "war on terrorism" is no mere metaphor; it has led us to two all-too-real wars in less than two years. At home, we live with periodic "orange alerts" and checkpoints.
While much has changed since Sept. 11, the "war on terrorism" debate boils down to a single theme: What are Americans willing to do? How much are we willing to spend in money, prestige, rights, lives? What bargains are we willing to make?
A great deal has already been accomplished. ( click here to continue
Biological and chemical weapons are cheap, hard to trace and potentially devastating, which is why terrorists find them so appealing. Public Agenda's overview on bioterrorism examines the history of these weapons and America's emergency preparedness efforts to deal with a potential attack.
A series of interviews by Public Agenda with experts on foreign policy and public opinion.

How Should Florida Prepare For Terrorism?
Unlike with a Hurricane or a Flood, there will likely be NO WARNING for a terrorist attack. We, as Floridians can make sure that our families know what we would do to account for each other in a disaster. A Family Disaster Plan is critical and should be in place at all times. Your family's plan should include Emergency Contacts, identification of Rally Points Disaster Supply Kit , and more. With some simple planning this can be done and help alleviate the fear of the unknown.

against terror Terrorism is a crime against humanity. Islam is a religion that means "peace". In the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam, God commands believers to bring peace and security to the world. The Islamic morality is the cure for terrorism, not the source of it. This book maintains that only love, tolerance and peace can eradicate terrorism and reveals, with quotations from the Qur'an, the New Testament and the Torah, that terrorism is a form of savagery condemned by all divine religions. Throughout their entire lives, everyone is at war with an enemy, the extent of whose strength and influence they perhaps fail to fully comprehend. He constantly invites mankind to commit evil, and many people he uses without them even being aware of it. This most dangerous enemy is the Devil. All forms of terrorist attack are roundly condemned in Islam. In Islam, it is a great sin to kill an innocent person, and anyone who does so will suffer great torment in the Hereafter.

INTERPOL collects, stores, analyses and exchanges information about suspected individuals and groups and their activities. The organization also co-ordinates the circulation of alerts and warnings on terrorists, dangerous criminals and weapons threats to police in member countries. A chief initiative in this area is the Fusion Task Force , which was created in the aftermath of the 11 September attacks in the United States. Links CTC/CTED In order to help member countries report terrorist activity, INTERPOL has issued practical guidelines on the type of information required. Member countries are also encouraged to report on other crimes which may be linked to terrorism, such as suspicious financial transactions, weapons trafficking, money laundering, falsified travel and identity documents, and seizures of nuclear, chemical and biological materials. The growing possibility of terrorists launching attacks with biological or chemical weapons is a particularly urgent concern. A dedicated bio-terrorism unit at the General Secretariat works to implement various projects with the close co-operation of INTERPOL National Central Bureaus and regional offices.
