Theatre History Library Project Introduction You, and your team, have been hired by an emerging new theatre production company to produce a series of new plays. The plays that you will be producing are not set in the modern era; they are period pieces that will require a lot of research and attention to detail. It is important that everything you produce on stage look as authentic as possible. To help you with this endeavor, the president of the company puts into your hand a small key. The key is smooth and cool to the touch and glitters in the sunlight. This key, when put into a door lock, transforms the doorway into a portal. This portal will send anyone who enters it to any time in history. As you and your team prepare to step through, the president gives you a warning: you will only have three days to complete all of your research. Once those three days are up, the magic of the key will dissolve and you will be instantly transported back to this time. The Task Your group will be venturing back in time to research one of the following major theatre movements: Greek and Roman Theatre (500 B.C. to 500 A.D.)

Inducing Sneezing
In response to my post below, " On Purple Cows and Sneezing ," Don Hall has posted " Controlling the Controllable, " which takes my comments and extends them to practical suggestions. I think his #2 and #3 suggestions, in particular, are good: 2) Face to face marketing is more effective. Get out of the little black room and go where people go to have fun (if your show is fun) or to think (if your show is thoughtful) and market to one person at a time . 3) Start with your own personal "sneezers." Who do you listen to when they recommend a movie or a new CD? Chances are others listen to them for the same thing. Get them in your theater and make sure they have a phenomenal experience.
I'd like to make a radical suggestion for inducing sneezing. First, follow Don's #2 suggestion: hang out at a place where the kind of people you'd like to have in your audience hang out. Talk to people, talk about your project and find a few people who seem intrigued. Then follow Seth Godin's (author of Purple Cow) approach to selling his book. The first run of his book was sold for $5 a copy but there was a catch: you had to buy 12 copies. What he was counting on was that 1) sneezers, who are often first adopters who like new ideas, would want to be among the few who got a copy of the book, AND 2) by buying 12 they would be encouraged to distribute them to people they thought might also like the ideas. Thus, the ideavirus spread. After the first run was sold out, the rest of the books were released for public consumption at the usual price. The innovators and early adopters were already talking up the book, and with that network already working for him, the early and late majority wanted to get on board. Result: the book shot up the best seller list.

Sales Performance thru April 2008

Snow Country Real Estate still ahead of 2007 sales! Reports from the Western Upper Peninsula MLS Board show total sales dollars for this year in our region is over $10.6 million with SCRE 3rd in sales volume. The region, as a whole, is ahead of 2007 by $3.1 million We have 3 agents in the firm in the TOP 10 ....and the file cabinet in the office which contains "to be closed" transactions is still looking very full. Spring is generally the season when people get serious about selling or buying, so I've talked to quite a number of people in the past month. The comment I hear most often is "the real estate market is really down" and fortunately, I've been able to honestly answer that our local market is stable and rising . I always give specific examples of what I'm working on or have just closed and also mention what's going on with the other agents in my office. Everyone reacts with surprise to that info, but are usually pleased. Real estate may be bad news in the national media, but "real estate is local" and the Ironwood, MI and Hurley, WI area is definitely holding its own!

BŸchnerÕs Woyzeck at UBC 1992 Course Description The focus of this course is on the development of Western theatre from its origins until the mid-19 th Century within the cultural context of place and time. We will approach theatre as one of a multitude of artifacts that give expression to the complex cultural identity of a society. We will seek to specify what differentiates theatre from other forms of cultural expression and what the historical study of the various elements of theatreÑfrom dramatic texts to performance and performers, theatre space, theatre sponsors and patrons, and theatre management Ðreveals about the value, significance, and purpose of theatre within particular societies at particular times.
    Course Objectives
To gain an understanding of the purpose and significance of theatre as an art form as it has existed in Western culture for over two millennia and thereby gain insight into the continuing significance of theatre today. To acquire the factual knowledge and vocabulary relating to Western theatre history (playwrights, plays, actors, costuming, staging, stages and stagecraft) necessary for a well educated theatre major to negotiate the discourse of theatre with mentors and peers.

    History
The Parc and Dare Hall was built in 1892, and began its life as a working men's library and institute. The workers of the Park and the Dare Collieries funded the building by a donating a penny from each pound of their wages. It was a place where the miners could meet and socialise. It featured a bar and a library, which was used by many to read up on Marx and his theories of socialism in the early twentieth century. In the early twentieth century work began on the Parc and Dare Hall, adding a large theatre, initially to be used as a variety hall. In 1913 it was completed, the external style of the building being influenced by the contemporary architecture of Welsh chapels. Due to the declining popularity of theatre and the emergance of cinema, by 1920 a cinema screen was installed. In 1930, the first 'talkie' picture to be screened was
