Bad Credit Loan Credit Cards Loans Reggaeton Videos ... PDA View Full Version : Sikhism? January 31st, 2005, 03:01 PM I've taken 2 different tests to discover more about my religious beliefs. Both times I got Sikhism as my number 1 choice. I've read some on it. They believe in the Christian God but are more spiritual, such as meditation, healing, and such, and they also value women equal to men, which so many Christian traditions do not. The religion kind of reminds me of Christian Science. But does anyone have any more info about this religion? I have found books on it, but unlike Wicca, I can't find any "beginner's" books. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Blessed Be,
Jada Raine Dawa Lhamo January 31st, 2005, 05:28 PM I'll have to look, but I'm fairly certain they're not an Abrahamic religion or related to Christianity in any way, and they don't worship the Christian God. If they identify their God as being the same as the Christian God, that's quite a bit different, but I thought they came out of the Sant Mat tradition in India... Hmmm... I'll have to go see what I can find out. Hold that thought...

JREF Forum General Topics Religion and Philosophy PDA View Full Version : God is the only evil thing in the Garden of Eden truethat 10th September 2007, 07:03 AM In reading Genesis and discussing the creation (according to Biblical text) it occurred to me that when God creates the world he looks at it and says everything he made was Good.
In Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve are being judged for eating the tree of life he says that -they have become like us knowing Good and Evil.
If you consider this, God himself defines everything in the world as Good and only himself as Evil.
What do you make of this, those who consider God good and righteous. Darat 10th September 2007, 07:35 AM I was following you up to "If you consider this, God himself defines everything in the world as Good and only himself as Evil." - I don't see where that comes from. truethat 10th September 2007, 07:46 AM Genesis 1:31
So the things God created by God were all GOOD
Genesis 3:22
22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
You see if you actually read the Genesis accounts you can see a lot of interesting information. If a believer suggests that they are indeed the word of God, you can see that God made everything GOOD.

edit Baha'i Faith
The Bah¡' Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bah¡'u'll¡h (1817-1892), is regarded by Bah¡'s as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad. The central theme of Bah¡'u'll¡h's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bah¡'u'll¡h said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification. Wikipedia article: Bah¡' Faith
edit Buddhism
Buddhism is a religion based largely around the teachings of the Siddhārtha Gautama (although his exact status is still controversial and changes by sect), and is now the central religion of most of Southeast Asia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and parts of China, India, and a small part of Russia. It is also a major religion in Korea and Japan, and has growing influence in the west.

    58. Religion - Looking For A Book That Deals With The Origin Of All
http//www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/people/features/world_religions/index.shtml BBC always does a fab job ;)
    http://www.physicsforums.com/archive/index.php/t-27899.html
Physics Help and Math Help - Physics Forums PF Lounge General Discussion Philosophy ... PDA View Full Version : Religion - Looking for a book that deals with the origin of all religions DisplayAds("Top"); Doc Brown Like many people, I find myself trying to figure out whether it is possible that we find ourselves in existence on this planet, along with millions of other species of living organism, by utter chance - a random occurrence in a universe/multiverse that we cannot comprehend.
But I always find myself at the same dead-end; Something or some force MUST have created the matter of the universe in the first place - it cannot come from nothing. The big bang was triggered by something. It is for this reason (amongst others) that, at the moment (I change my mind quite a lot!), I believe in some form of God.
What baffles me though, is the number of different religions on Earth. Supposing even one of them is right, that would mean the rest are wrong. So what drives people to have such blind faith in whatever religion they are born into? The chances are that it's the wrong one - like throwing a dice - wherever you happen to be born....
I'm starting to get interested in the origins of the main religions. The Witnesses came round to my house a few weeks ago and keep on coming back after I spoke to them the first time. I never let them in, but I stand on the doorstep and out of curiosity, I ask them questions. They have an answer for everything, and they claim their bible is "The Truth" - nothing would convince them otherwise. But if they grew up in Iran, they would probably believe that Islam was "The Truth".
