Biochemistry is located in the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science Staff associated with biochemistry have a broad range of research interests. Major initiatives include the study of signal transduction in mammalian cells, prostanoid receptor signalling, cardiovascular biology, yeast pathogenicity, control of gene expression, structure-function studies of various receptors, transporters and enzymes, diabetes, amino acid transporters in brain tissue, serpins, the serotonin transporter, flavoproteins , biochemistry of dioxygen, NMR studies of proteases and protein engineering of amino acid dehydrogenases. In addition to performing high-quality research, the department also maintains a successful and challenging undergraduate program that attracts high levels of undergraduate science students. Courses are available in all major areas of biochemistry and our graduates typically continue to pursue successful careers in research, industry or teaching. | |
