... e In biology evolution is the process of change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms from one generation to the next. Though changes between generations are relatively minor, differences accumulate with each subsequent generation and can, over time, cause substantial changes in the organisms. Inherited traits come from the genes that are passed on to offspring during reproduction Mutations in genes can produce new or altered traits in individuals, resulting in the appearance of

The Origin of Species
Introduction to Evolutionary Biology
This essay is a must-read for anyone who wants to participate in It lays out the land for evolutionists and creationists alike, presenting the ideas behind and the evidence for biological evolution.
What is Evolution?
All too often creationists spend their time arguing with a straw-man caricature of evolution. This brief essay presents a definition of evolution that is acceptable to evolutionists.
Evolution is a Fact and a Theory
Biologists consider evolution to be a fact in much the same way that physicists do so for gravity. However, the mechanisms of evolution are less well understood, and it is these mechanisms that are described by several theories of evolution.
The Modern Synthesis of Genetics and Evolution
Darwin developed his theory of natural selection without any knowledge of genetics. Since Darwin, genetics and evolution have been synthesized, and natural selection is no longer considered to be the only evolutionary mechanism.

What? Evolution is an incredibly versatile email/calendar/PIM that took the Linux world by storm a few years ago. It has been called an 'Outlook replacement' by every tech site from ZDNet to InfoWorld . Evolution played a major role in allowing the Linux desktop to move into the enterprise by being able to connect to Microsoft Exchange Server and schedule/accept Microsoft Outlook Meetings. Here's a screenshot of how it handles meeting invitations sent by Outlook. Why? The company that I work for needed the capability to schedule/accept meetings with participants outside of the company, most of whom use Microsoft Outlook as their email client. Until this point we were content with using Mozilla Thunderbird , but now it became clear that we needed something a bit more versatile. I'm sure the

(Redirected from Evolution Jump to: navigation search Charles Darwin The theory of evolution is a naturalistic theory of the history of life on earth (this refers to the theory of evolution which employs methodological naturalism and is used in teaching the theory of evolution in schools and universities). Merriam-Webster's dictionary gives the following definition of evolution : "a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations." Since World War II a majority of the most prominent and vocal defenders of the theory of evolution which employs methodological naturalism have been atheists Although the defenders of the theory of evolution contend there is evidence that supports the theory of evolution, there are many who are against the theory of evolution and state there are many problems with the theory of evolution . For example, an article by CBS News begins with the observation that, " Americans do not believe that humans evolved, and the vast majority says that even if they evolved

What explains accelerated genetic evolution in human lineage?
December 12, 2007
The authors of this paper present a simple model of population expansion and migration over the more than 50,000 years that may better explain much of the current global pattern of DNA variation. These interpretations imply that cultural adaptation accompanied by population growth over the past 10,000 to 20,000 years, such as the spread of agriculture and migration into different climatic environments, may have supplied much of the selective pressure that explains recent genetic adaptation in humans.

Through the combination of theoretical reflection and institutional structure, these inquiries were given a precise development that they otherwise would not have attained. This explains, at least in part, why evolutionary theory emerged in the nineteenth century rather than in direct response to the transformations in natural philosophy of the seventeenth. All About Evolution and Intelligent Design
One of the most widely debated and controversial topics of our time, Evolution is a biological term referring to the period of time in which Earth has evolved from initial creation into the lush populated planet we know today. The theory of evolution states that overtime, as new species began to evolve, the more dominant species were in greatest control of the Earth’s population. The more dominant a species, the more likely it would be able to reproduce and continue up the evolutionary ladder. Furthermore, characteristics from those dominant species would be the ones that would carry on to future generations. Otherwise known as natural selection or speciation, this gradual evolution accounts for the immensely diverse biological world we all live in today. In theory, evolution is believed to have taken billions and billions of years, which has frequently conflicted with the religious beliefs of many. The idea of evolution was first recorded on paper by Charles Darwin in his 1859 book The Origin of Species. Darwin’s book offered the world of science its first rational and well-argued theory for a manner by which evolutionary global change had occurred and would continue to occur over time.
