The Secret Bard "Truth can never be reached by just listening to the voice of an authority." Francis Bacon "But when I searched, I found no work so meritorious as the discovery and development of the arts and inventions that tend to civilise the life of man." Francis Bacon "That extra-ordinary genius, when it was impossible to write a history of what was known, wrote one of what it was necessary to learn." on Bacon E lizabethan England was anything but a free society. Like Continental Europe at the time, the authority of the Monarchies and the Church was undisputed. Sovereigns held the power of life or death over their subjects. Authorities encouraged informers - spies - to hand in heretics and political radicals, who were then tortured into confessions before their executions. England was split over religion, and its coming renaissance was but a flicker in the minds of a tiny learned elite. In the midst of this unstable background, Elizabeth 1 came to the throne in 1558. By the time Charles I succeeded to the Throne in 1625, English language had been transformed, and English commerce and trade led the world. America was being colonised, and foundations had been laid for a revolution in political thought and science. W.T. Smedley, a Bacon biographer, states:

Francis Bacon (1561 - 1626)
Bacon was an English philosopher and statesman and a pioneer of modern scientific thought. Francis Bacon was born on 22 January 1561 in London. He was the son of Sir Nicholas Bacon, keeper of the great seal for Elizabeth I. Bacon studied at Cambridge University and at Gray's Inn and became an MP in 1584. However, he was unpopular with Elizabeth, and it was only on the accession of James I in 1603 that Bacon's career began to prosper. Knighted that year, he was appointed to a succession of posts culminating, like his father, with keeper of the great seal. However, Bacon's real interests lay in science. Much of the science of the period was based on the work of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. While many Aristotelian ideas, such as the position of the earth at the centre of the universe, had been overturned, his methodology was still being used. This held that scientific truth could be reached by way of authoritative argument: if sufficiently clever men discussed a subject long enough, the truth would eventually be discovered. Bacon challenged this, arguing that truth required evidence from the real world. He published his ideas, initially in 'Novum Organum' (1620), an account of the correct method of acquiring natural knowledge.

The reason is this: I have been requested to explain why I don't believe in it. They say they want to show me that I am wrong, but have promised to be open-minded to my arguments, (not that I trust them, but oh well). I would really appreciate if you could post any links that debunk or show info against these conspiracies. I am going to post also some links:

Francis Bacon was born in Dublin. His father was a racehorse trainer and his mother was an heiress to a fortune created from the coal mines and steel business. Francis was cared for by a family nurse because he was a child who had to have the full attention of a caring adult. Francis had asthma as well as allergies to horses and dogs. During his attacks, Francis was given morphine which may explain some of his chosen works of creative expression later in life. Francis and his family moved a lot. This alone may explain some of the displacement that Francis Bacon felt. The displacement would be credited to the fact that he moved back and forth between homes in Ireland and England numerous times throughout his youth. His sense of belonging never seemed to exist. His Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion created a stir when he displayed it in London in 1945. During the 1950s, the painter developed the gloomy style that would remain with him throughout his creative life. He seemed to enjoy capturing the evils of art rather than the medieval period for which his artwork showed his true underlying creative interests. When Fancis Bacon died of a heart attack in 1992, he left his entire fortune to John Edwards. Bacon had met Edwards in 1974 and the two formed a lasting relationship that eventually earned the young man a lucrative inheritance. John Edwards donated many pieces of Francis Bacon art to the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.

His view of the human condition was extremely pessimistic and his paintings typically depict people in isolation and anguish. In an interview in 1962 he said: “I think that man now realizes that he is an accident, that he is a completely futile being, that he has to play out the game without reason.” Bacon—a descendant of the famous Elizabethan statesman Sir Francis Bacon —was born in Dublin on October 28, 1909, one of five children. A principal fruit of friendship, is the ease and discharge of the fulness and swellings of the heart, which passions of all kinds do cause and induce. We know diseases of stoppings, and suffocations, are the most dangerous in the body; and it is not much otherwise in the mind; you may take sarza to open the liver, steel to open the spleen, flowers of sulphur for the lungs, castoreum for the brain; but no receipt openeth the heart, but a true friend; to whom you may impart griefs, joys, fears, hopes, suspicions, counsels, and whatsoever lieth upon the heart to oppress it, in a kind of civil shrift or confession. Jump to: navigation search BACON, Francis baron of Verulam ; one of the most remarkable men of whom any age can boast; a reformer of philosophy , by founding it on the observation of nature , after it had consisted, for so many centuries, of scholastic subtilties and barren dialectics . He was born at London , in 1561, and displayed, from his earliest childhood, proofs of a superior mind. In nis 33th year, he entered the university of Cambridge , where he made astonishing progress in all the sciences there taught. He had not completed his 16th year, when he wrote against the Aristotelian philosophy, which seemed to him more calculated to perpetuate disputes than to enlighten the mind. It was then the custom, in England , to send abroad, particularly to France , those young men who were destined for public life. Young B. went to Paris in the suite of sir Amias Pallet , who soon after sent him to England with an important message. He discharged it to the satisfaction of the queen (Elizabeth), returned to France, and travelled through several

Bacon was born in Dublin, Ireland to English parents. The family moved back and forth between Dublin and London several times while he was growing up. He was a sickly child, and his father attempted to "toughen him up" by having his son horsewhipped. He was expelled from his family in 1925 when his homosexuality was discovered.
Bacon then spent a few months in Berlin, then a year and a half in Paris, before returning to London. An exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso inspired him to make his first drawings and paintings.
Bacon was largely self-taught as an artist. His influences included Pablo Picasso, Diego Velazquez and the Surrealist movement. He once said that his most important surrealist influence was not a fellow painter but rather the films of Luis Buñuel. He later became disdainful of his own early work, and destroyed the majority of his work from before 1944. Francis Bacon Resources Contact Us Sitemap
