    Encyclopedia Article Find in this article View printer-friendly page E-mail Cather, Willa Sibert (1873-1947), American writer, one of the country's foremost novelists, whose carefully crafted prose conveys vivid pictures of the American landscape and the people it moulded. She was born December 7, 1873, near Winchester, Virginia. When she was about 10 years old her family moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska, which is the setting for a number of her best-known novels and short stories. Educated at the University of Nebraska, she was a newspaper woman and teacher in Pittsburgh before going to New York in 1906 to work as an editor on McClure's Magazine.

    Articolo Trova nell'articolo Anteprima di stampa Invia Multimedia 1 elemento Cather, Willa Sibert (Winchester, Virginia 1873 - New York 1947), scrittrice statunitense, autrice di romanzi caratterizzati da una prosa raffinata e da vivide evocazioni del paesaggio americano e della sua gente. A dieci anni si stabil¬ con la famiglia nel Nebraska , dove ¨ ambientata gran parte delle sue opere, e nel 1906 si trasfer¬ a New York per svolgervi l'attivit  giornalistica. Nel 1913, dopo aver pubblicato una raccolta di poesie e una di racconti, cominci² a dedicarsi esclusivamente all'attivit  letteraria. I suoi primi romanzi, che includono La mia Antonia (1918), ritraggono la vita risoluta e dignitosa delle famiglie contadine immigrate nell'Ovest, in contrapposizione a quella degli abitanti originari, radicati nel tessuto urbano. Mit zehn Jahren zog ihre Familie nach Red Cloud in Nebraska, das mit seiner Immigrantenszene zum Schauplatz vieler ihrer bekanntesten Romane und Kurzgeschichten avancierte.
