However, with Brisbane Punk Rock, it is believed by most who followed the movement in Brisbane relatively closely, that not to mention the political climate would be a travesty and be quite neglectful to what was a highly influential factor of the scene. As with the punk movement in general, whatever bands that propergated in their own region often reflected the mood and styles of the bands. To use an analogy, for instance English naturalist, Charles Darwin's evolutionary discovery of the indiginous animals of the Galapagos Islands. http://www.amphi.com/~crobson/evolution/period01/WEBSITE.htm
by Taylor, Justin, Brittany, and Maria Over the years, the theory of evolution has become an extremely controversial issue facing our society. Although some scientists believe that evolution, and evolution alone, is responsible for the creation of organisms over time, others tend to deny its existence because of various reasonssome of which include: religious backgrounds, lack of convincing evidence, and a series of what they consider to be "missing links." In the midst of it all, many misconceptions on this theory have transpired in result of misunderstanding towards what evolution and scientific theories truly are. This website will contain detailed information that demonstrates the presence of evolution during previous eras and the increasing complexity of animals over time. By Brittany The basic idea addressed through the theory of evolution revolves around a cycle known as natural selection. This is a process, credited to Charles Darwin, which allows the organisms best suited to their environment to survive and reproduce offspring, while animals that do not obtain the favorable characteristics go extinct or decrease in numbers. The mutations that appear in organisms can either be extremely beneficial or on the downside result in the death of that organism, in particular.

GTDA Poll: What book inspired you to choose science?
March 27, 2008
The Log from the Sea of Cortez
.The book is an account of an expedition to map the organisms that live in the bays and beaches of along the Baja peninsula. The characters are Steinbeck, his colleague the marine biologist Ed Ricketts,  a crew of sardine fisherman, and the variety of critters they collect along the way. I read Log over Xmas break while hunkered down in my basement room. I fell in love with Steinbeck, whose lucid prose revealed a person with deep regard for the human race. But I also fell in love with idea Log. I desperately wanted to become a biologist. So, dear readers, dish. What book helped point you down the path you are on?

Scientists Web Quest 2004/DMR “Science and technology have advanced through the contributions of many different people in different cultures at different times in history”. (National Science Educational Standards)
Introduction : The purpose of this project is to have the students “meet” the scientists that they will study this year and relate to them as real people.
The Essential question : Can students in a cooperative group produce a biography of a specific scientist that gives us an overview of both his/her life and his/her contributions to science?
PROCESS

TASKS
DOCUMENTS

... NOTES
Process Students will be placed in cooperative groups of 2-3. A member will randomly select a scientist from the scientist grab bag. Students will register the scientists with the supervising teacher. Students will meet to study the set of proposed documents and begin their research.
Students will prepare the biography of a given scientist in the form of a set of documents presented in scrapbook format.
BACK
Tasks DAY #1 With the scientist in mind look over the list of proposed documents and discuss possibilities with group.

You are part of the "Google" generation, like it or not. As a student you are more likely to look to the internet for information rather than check out a library book. You have been taught how to do book reviews, but few courses give ideas on how to critically assess the information you receive on the internet. The web is not a library even though it can be a fabulous resource if you navigate it cautiously. The purpose of this webservation is to critically analyze several websites on issues covered by this course. The point is not to provide you "information" but to stimulate you to think critically about the way information on anthropology is presented on websites.
BACKGROUND: Follow the specific instructions for both parts of this assignment, as noted below. As you write your critique, keep in mind the following criteria:
