Sydney based artist, Brian Walker, credits his desire to seamlessly fuse fashion, illustration and the element of surprise as the driving creative force behind his artworks. In a time where the line between hyper-realities and those of our own is becoming finer, the Sydney artist's work speaks a relative language. The digital artist is inspired by surreal landscapes, the evolution of fashion and changing popular culture . Walker takes these inspirational genres and merges them with his concept of 'using photography as a tool to represent the ideas of the impossible'.

One of the pieces of art destroyed by the fire of October 22, 2007 in the Armando Museum in Amersfoort is the engraving Melencolia I http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melencolia_I for a description.
A common interpretation of this engraving has direct relevance for the researcher in mathematics: The engraving would symbolize the melancholia which takes possession of the researcher when there is no progress in the research. The bell which should announce the break-through to the world hangs silently.
I don't know from where the Armando Museum had this engraving on loan. Fortunately, it is not unique, as is usually the case with engravings. For instance, the web page http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/durer_albrecht.html already mentions four musea which possess the engraving: Armand Hammer Museum of Art at UCLA, Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, Princeton University Art Museum and Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, UK.

About Hands.
Hands are used for communication - for writing, gesturing, and sign
language. Hands give information from their appearance, too - they can show
clues about their owners' age and lifestyle. Some people think palms can be
read to tell your future! Hands are also used for tools - to pick up
things, for containers, for protection.
Proportion Hints for Drawing Hands *(Notes - Copy)
Body: basic shape is a square with curved sides length is equal to width (also same as length of middle finger) thumb attaches to the hand at the midpoint of the body Fingers: middle finger is longest, then the ring finger, pointer finger

About the Artist When he was 13, Albrecht Durer (1471-1528) studied his face in a mirror and drew an exquisite self-portrait that simply astounded numerous experienced artists in his hometown of Nuremberg, Germany. It was obvious to all, including his father, who was training his son in his own craft of gold-smithing, that pen and paper were the boy's better selection for skill. Therefore, Durer was quickly handed off to a well-known local woodcut designer and painter where he apprenticed for five years.

Instrumental Music SYMBOL PRINTING BRIEF OVERVIEW Symbols are everywhere....they are so prevalent in our environment that we hardly recognize their presence. We see symbols in the supermarket and on television. We find them marking the highways and littering the city streets. Subconsciously they communicate language using abstract visual pictures. The SYMBOL PRINTING unit is designed to familiarize students with the many symbols that make up our world. We will attempt to decode some of the complex visual problems that artists balance within their artworks. Using the internet we will continue our investigations of artists past and present using the many different techniques of creating printed images; woodcuts, linoleum block printing, lithography and screen printing. Within the unit, students will discover the use of symbols throughout the world and develop their own set of symbols according to their unique person. Each student will fabricate a printing tool using wood, rubber, and ink. OBJECTIVES THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: 1. Identify, describe, and decode complex abstract visual information (symbolism).
