Laozi (Lao Tzu) Laozi (Lao Tzu: dates uncertain. Speculation ranges from from 600 BC to 200 BC) is, we assume, the author of the Daode Jing Tao Te Ching ), the most beloved and widely translated Chinese philosophical text. The figure of Laozi has always been shrouded in mystery. It deepens the more we discover about the texts. Tradition regarded Laozi as Confucius' (6 th Century BC) teacher and the "founder" of Daoism, the "doubt tradition" movement in modern China gave influential arguments for dating the text to the middle "Warring States" period (4 th Century BC). The discovery of 1 st Century BC version of the text suggested the text was in flux over a long period of time. A. C. Graham argued that the text probably became important only after Zhuangzi died (ca. 295 BC). Scholars in China, on the contrary, have reverted to the traditional dating placing Laozi before Confucius. Many scholars dismiss Laozi as mythological or use his name as shorthand for "the author(s) of the Daode Jing ."

The Master doesn’t talk, he acts…Because he believes in himself, he doesn’t need to try and convince others. Campaigning, a necessary job for a future or second term winning president breaks Lao-Tzu’s rule of the governing body remaining unknown to the people. The Message of Lau Tzu Posted: May, 2005 by Ken Lloyd Russell The way is so simple that complicated minds cannot see it.
The mystic I am most fond of is Lao Tzu. He left behind no ponderous treatises, no great band of disciples, just one slim book, the Tao Te Ching . But what a beautiful vision it holds: the essence of simplicity and naturalness. I embrace this man because he has stripped away all the spiritual bullshit and defined the mystic way as simply being natural. if he were to allow himself to be. This vision is so liberating and so inspiring. Lau Tzu simply says, " The way is so simple that complicated minds cannot see it." That is it. I have found no greater utterance in the whole literature of mysticism, philosophy, or religion. He doesn’t tell you what the way is. " The way that can be defined to death is not the Way to Life.

Foucault And Lautzu A Comparison
This is the first 1,000 characters of 3371 words (13.48 pages) in the essay titled Foucault And Lautzu A Comparison Foucault and Lautzu a comparison
The philosopher Michel Foucault and the ancient chinese sage Lao Tzu are separated by some twenty centuries. This seems to be of minor consequence, however, when it comes to the essence of their ideas. Both figures deal with concepts that explore the relationship between society and power. Specifically, the ways in which social bodies gain or lose power. In this paper, I will use their ideas to support my theory that equality is impossible in social interactions. These interactions may range in significance from a blind date to a political dictatorship. I will deal mainly with the more common, every day, interactions in order to support my stance that equality on any social level is impossible.
The concept of equality is rendered impracticable because of utilization's of power which I call “exchanges”. I refer to these utilization's of power as exchanges because one social body offers subservience while the other offers control. I feel that... Chapter 1
The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named is not the eternal name
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth
The named is the mother of myriad things
    Thus, constantly free of desire
    One observes its wonders
    Constantly filled with desire
One observes its manifestations These two emerge together but differ in name The unity is said to be the mystery Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders Chapter 2 When the world knows beauty as beauty, ugliness arises When it knows good as good, evil arises Thus being and non-being produce each other Difficult and easy bring about each other Long and short reveal each other High and low support each other Music and voice harmonize each other Front and back follow each other Therefore the sages: Manage the work of detached actions Conduct the teaching of no words They work with myriad things but do not control They create but do not possess They act but do not presume They succeed but do not dwell on success It is because they do not dwell on success That it never goes away Chapter 3 Do not glorify the achievers So the people will not squabble Do not treasure goods that are hard to obtain So the people will not become thieves Do not show the desired things
