David Livingstone (1813 - 1873)
David Livingstone © Livingstone was a Scottish missionary and one of the greatest European explorers of Africa, whose opening up the interior of the continent contributed to the 'Scramble for Africa'.
David Livingstone was born at Blantyre, south of Glasgow on 19 March 1813. At 10 he began working in the local cotton mill, with school lessons in the evenings. In 1836, he began studying medicine and theology in Glasgow and decided to become a missionary doctor. In 1841, he was posted to the edge of the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. In 1845, he married Mary Moffat, daughter of a fellow missionary.
Livingstone became convinced of his mission to reach new peoples in the interior of Africa and introduce them to Christianity, as well as freeing them from slavery. It was this which inspired his explorations. In 1849 and 1851, he travelled across the Kalahari, on the second trip sighting the upper Zambezi River. In 1842, he began a four year expedition to find a route from the upper Zambezi to the coast. This filled huge gaps in western knowledge of central and southern Africa. In 1855, Livingstone discovered a spectacular waterfall which he named 'Victoria Falls'. He reached the mouth of the Zambezi on the Indian Ocean in May 1856, becoming the first European to cross the width of southern Africa.

We can condemn it as barbaric, say it was totally wrong, be ashamed it happened; but I don't think you can say sorry for the actions of others in history. Lolabelle 27-Nov-06, 08:05 I can relate, we have had aboriginals demanding apologies for how their people were treated by the whites for the last 200 years. Sorry, but I don't feel ashamed in the slightest.
Not that I don't think it was an evil, sick and barbaric thing, but I feel no connection or responsibility for slavery at all.

Christianity Isn't for Black People by The Brother
Black people should not practice christianity! Christianity is a religion that was made by Europeans, and has been used as a means to further their interests by destroying Black people. Africans have possessed their own beliefs for millenniums, but were forced by Europeans to adopt christianity as their belief system under threat of physical violence, which is something that should be expected from a wicked devil. And because of the adoption of chrisitanity, Africans throughout the Diaspora have been enslaved, raped and murdered by hypocrites, who operate in the name of a peaceful man, but whose true nature is to steal from and destroy those who differ from them.
Being a christian can, and will, destroy its Black practitioners!
History of Christianity
Many Black people who consider themselves christian are either unaware, or don't care, that the history of their religion is filled with Black people, yet presented to them with images of pale-faced, stringy haired white folks. The fact that Europeans have distorted the images of biblical figures, changing them from people of color, hue-mans, to subhuman individuals who look like them, and whose history lies outside of the biblical homes of Africa and the Asia-minor, should be enough for reasonable Black christians to question their faith. But due to the fear that Europeans have instilled in Africans, Black christians fear using the minds that they believe their god gave them, which is causing many Black people to remain enslaved.
