But sad mortality o'ersways their power,
How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea,
Whose action is no stronger than a flower?
O! how shall summer's honey breath hold out,
Against the wrackful siege of battering days,
When rocks impregnable are not so stout,
Nor gates of steel so strong but Time decays?
O fearful meditation! where, alack,
Shall Time's best jewel from Time's chest lie hid? Or what strong hand can hold his swift foot back? Or who his spoil of beauty can forbid? O! none, unless this miracle have might, That in black ink my love may still shine bright. The Internet StrongVerse.com Web Site Hosted and Designed by WebBoulevard.com

William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, the son of a glove maker. He was educated at the local grammar school and married Anne Hathaway in 1582. Although surprisingly little is known of Shakespeare's early career, it is generally believed that he worked initially as an actor and graduated to writing plays. He produced, on average, two a year, many of which are classics of English literature, and is indisputibly England's, if not the world's, greatest playwright, with an unrivalled gift of language and expression. He began writing poetry early in his career and the Sonnets, works of great emotional depth and beauty, were probably completed by 1600. Shakespeare retired to Stratford in 1610 where he died in the Spring of 1616. Sonnet i

'My Complete Works Festival' by William Shakespeare

December 12th 2006. THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR (the musical). This will be the shortest blog of all – for, ‘Nothing can come of nothing.’ (Lear – in another context.)
I stood at the back of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre for three dreary hours with my mouth wide open. Aghast at the sheer waste of time, effort, money, AND most of all – wasted opportunity.
Opera has tapped into my plays for centuries, Othello, Macbeth and of course Falstaff have all inspired operatic composition. Musicals too abound - The Boys From Syracuse (based on The Comedy of Errors), Kiss Me Kate (based on The Taming of the Shrew), West Side Story (based on Romeo and Juliet), Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Return to the Forbidden Planet (based on The Tempest), (See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A2903609 ).
Yes The Merry Wives would make a good musical. But this was not it. It was - to be frank - a mess!

Life
Printer-friendly version of section A complete, authoritative account of Shakespeare’s life is lacking; much supposition surrounds relatively few facts. His day of birth is traditionally held to be April 23; it is known he was baptized on April 26, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The third of eight children, he was the eldest son of John Shakespeare, a locally prominent merchant, and Mary Arden, daughter of a Roman Catholic member of the landed gentry. He was probably educated at the local grammar school. As the eldest son, Shakespeare ordinarily would have been apprenticed to his father’s shop so that he could learn and eventually take over the business, but according to one apocryphal account he was apprenticed to a butcher because of reverses in his father’s financial situation. In recent years, it has more convincingly been argued that he was caught up in the secretive network of Catholic believers and priests who strove to cultivate their faith in the inhospitable conditions of
