The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) is a worldwide association of orthodox Anglican churches, working to maintain the catholic faith and resist the secularization of the Church. Our member churches comprise more than 400,000 members on 6 continents. We strive to faithfully carry the catholic message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a world which desperately needs it, and to preserve the "faith once delivered to the saints" in its Anglican form as the true and valid expression of that message. Traditional navigation by Pacific islanders involves no compasses or charts. Instead, navigators rely on the stars, on their reading of winds and waves,

Is there a primitive mentality essentially
different from a civilized one? Or do people learn and mentally organize their experience in similar ways in spite of differences in their cultures and in the content of what they have to learn? We know that all people, if raised in the appropriate environment, prove capable of learning to speak any language and to think and operate effectively in the context of any culture. But what about different people's traditional bodies of specialized lore? Are they organized in similar ways, or not? Cognitive psychologists are interested in understanding how specialists mentally process and store their knowledge so that they can retrieve it as needed. Traditional navigators of the Central Caroline Islands provide a case in point. The Carolinian art of navigation includes a sizable body of knowledge developed to meet the needs of ocean voyaging for distances of up to several hundred miles among the tiny islands and atolls of Micronesia. Lacking writing, local navigators have had to commit to memory their knowledge of the stars, sailing directions, seamarks, and how to read the waves and clouds to determine currents and predict weather.

Mr. Azkoul and Traditional Byzantine Iconography hand paints original icons to order using only high quality materials when processing your icon order. All icons are hand painted at the time of commission. No icons are pre-made. Since each icon is an original they have there own uniqueness. Icons of Christ or Orthodox Saints, the Theotokos, Angles, Family icons and Festal icons are available. Traditional Byzantine Iconography studios uses 23k pure gold leaf for the background or you may purchase icons with gold only in the halo with a painted background or no gold at all [ see ordering page for examples ]. The less the gold the lower the cost of the icon.. It is the icon itself that is important, gold is simply a matter of preference for aesthetical appearance, so the quality of the icon itself is not sacrificed. Mr. Azkoul's hand painted icons are made with high quality press-board that are saturated with rabbit skin glue, layered with a sheet of linen cloth and then gessoed and sanded to a smooth finish, and finally varnished. Your hand painted Byzantine icon is accomplished with close attention to detail. Mr. Azkoul approaches this sacred art of the Orthodox Church with faith, prayer, and fasting. The Holy Fathers teach us that iconography is a mystery of the Orthodox Church, just as the priesthood or, monasticism, marriage, baptism, etc are.

The Encyclopedia of Traditional Celtic Music
    (and related topics)
In this section I am collecting information which I find illuminating on the subject of music history, historical performance techniques, and anything else which appeals to me. Naturally I concentrate on my own special interests. I'm going to keep adding things whenever I find something useful. Here's why I'm chosen some of the topics that are included. Although I am mostly interested in traditional music, I am including some information on classical music as well. This is done for two reasons. First, it seems clear that centuries ago there was not as much difference between the two as there is now. In many ways, traditional music retains many of the characteristics of earlier classical music. For instance, holding a violin against the shoulder or upper arm instead of under the chin is now regarded as the mark of the untaught fiddler. Yet this was quite common in 17th-century France. Second, many people believe that the way classical music is played today is the way it has always been played, and implicitly that all types of music should be played in this way. Yet much of the classical repertoire was played quite differently when it was originally performed. Understanding this point should give additional insight into traditional performance techniques. Similarly, some people think that the way traditional music is played today is the way it has always been played. This is not accurate either.

    INTRODUCTION
Today caustic soda is normally used in soap making. However, in some countries, caustic soda is difficult or too expensive to obtain. The aim here was to try and use old pioneering methods from the Western World, that use substances which are easily found or made in most parts of the world. These materials were originally prepared and printed as a booklet, at the request of Christians in Burma, to help in situations where normal supplies of soap are not readily available; and where caustic soda is hard to come by. This information was needed because soap can be powerful in stopping the spread of certain diseases. As some of the steps in traditional soap making, require repeated practice to get right, carrying out some of these methods using only small amounts of the needed things, will help people learn, without wastage. This is especially true for people trying to make soap for the first time who do not have someone to show them how to do it. Diagrams and lengthy explanations have therefore been given to help people gain a better understanding. Owing to the fact that some of the people using these materials, will only speak English as a second language, when ever possible an attempt has been made to keep the language of the rest of these materials as understandable as possible. Other readers are asked to bear with any phrasing or repetition which would other-wise seem unnecessary.

W hat we eat where it comes from, how it is raised, processed, cooked affects our health in many ways. Traditional native diets in those few places in the world where people still mostly eat what they raise, hunt, gather, fish have been found to promote health and long life, for reasons only gradually coming to be understood. I t isn't practical to recommend now for most of us that we eat buffalo, harvest wild rice, farm corn in single hills, gather waupatoo or teepsinna. We'll see why those traditional foods are health-promoting as modern biological and medical sciences have belatedly learned. We'll see practical ways to improve health by food and diet starting when you are young to eat well to avoid health problems later. Cultural food stories and practical recipes are here too. InfoSeek Select Site for this Traditional Foods section. It's always nice to be appreciated. I really put in a lot of work on this section the recipes take quite a while to type and index-link. I have lots of fun with this food section. But I think it's appropriate to point out at the start of info for fun (good eating) and health that some Native people youth and elders especially are going to be affected to the point of malnutrition, hunger, and serious health problems due to the political direction the U.S. is taking. Here's a couple of brief statements from Native leaders about that. I hope you will take the time to read and think about them, if you are not Indian, but just interested in our culture or our foods and recipes. Indian people (U.S.) already know, and are worrying.
