Next meeting April 5th, 2008 The Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association OCTMA is the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association; a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the preservation of Traditional American and Celtic acoustic music. These goals are accomplished through workshops, community programs, public demonstrations, regular monthly meetings, a web-site, and the monthly newsletter. OCTMA sponsors concerts and special workshops throughout the year by artists of local, national and international renown. MONTHLY MEETINGS and workshops are open to the public. OCTMA meets the first Saturday of each month at Workshops start at 6:00 pm and are conducted at each meeting for many instruments. Workshops (Learning the Traditions) are usually conducted in Guitar, Hammer Dulcimer, Mountain Dulcimer, Mandolin, Fiddle, Penny Whistle. At 8:00 pm, members and visitors are invited to participate in the Open Mic (Sharing the Traditions), which is an opportunity to share a tune with the group. Everyone, regardless of skill or experience, is encouraged to share their talent. After the Open Mic, impromptu Jam Sessions (Playing the Traditions) are held where all that desire may participate. You dont need to be a musician to enjoy the Open Mic or Jam Sessions, Audience is needed also! MEMBERSHIP OCTMA is affiliated with the State Folk Arts Council of Oklahoma, The Oklahoma State Arts Council and Oklahoma City Arts Council. Members regularly assist with such projects as the Festival of the Arts, Global Oklahoma, Telebrations, and Oklahoma Traditions Folklife Festivals. | |
