When Stephen Colbert invented Mathematics in 12000 BC he broke it up into several different areas: geometry, algebra, and calculus. Stephen controlled geometry and algebra until mathologists stole it from him at the beginning of the 20th century.
He left calculus in the hands of a young and nimble physicist named Kent ames . Much of calculus is derived from Mr Ames' personal habits. For example, the Integral Sign was actually derived from the way Mr Ames used to write his cursive f's.
Historic bear battle of Sweden
Mr Ames originally used calculus to defeat the bears in the historic battle of Sweden, the decisive turning point in the man-bear wars. The battle of Sweden was a 2 year long battle, thousands of people dying on either side. In the second year of the war, the bears gained an upper-hand. As the grizzly bears (the military wing of the bears) led what looked to be the final, deadly assault on the humans, Ames tied them up using the chain rule. After realizing how dangerous calculus could be in the wrong hands, Ames stored it away.

History of Calculus
The history of Calculus dates back to the ancient Greeks and perhaps also ancient Egyptians. The mathematician, Archimedes, contributed greatly to the history of Calculus. After Archimedes, the history of calculus and the development of calculus was halted until roughly the time of Sir Isaac Newton who gave the history of calculus its deserved recognition. History of Calculus in the 17th Century In the 17th century Europe, many famous mathematicians worked on calculus and contributed to the history of calculus. Examples of great contributors to the history of calculus are Isaac Barrow, Pierre de Fermat, Blaise Pascal, John Wallis, James Gregory, Isaac Newton, Gottfried Leibniz, and Fermat. The idea of derivatives was discussed first before anyone knew of calculus. Who invented the fundamental theorem of calculus? Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz were credited with the invention of fundamental theorem of calculus independent of each other. James Gregory was also credited with proving a restricted version of the second fundamental theorem of calculus. History of differential calculus and integral calculus History of calculus give credit to Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz for the invention of differential calculus and integral calculus independently. Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz invented differential calculus and integral calculus in the late 1600s. They developed the fundamental theorem of calculus. Although many mathematicians contributed to the history of calculus, Sir Isaac Newton was the first to organize the mathematical field of calculus into one subject. Sir Isaac Newton also recorded the first and most important applications of calculus in the history of calculus. Sir Isaac Newton was particularly known for his great contribution to the history of integral calculus.

The Lacrosse Forums Open Forum PDA View Full Version : engineering question 12-08-2006, 09:12 PM I'm a freshman in HS and i am interested in being an engineer someday, though i'm not too clear on what courses are necessary to take in college to be an engineer..i was looking through a clemson book that was sent to my sis and all the majors they offer, and i was looking at the engineering majors, and i was wondering about automotive engineering ( ya know, like designing cars and how they work and making them better and stuff) and what type of major that would fall under, i was thinking civil engineering but im not sure any help would be greatly appreciated, and anything else you would like to add about engineering would be great?
academically-as of now i am taking geometry (as a freshman in HS) (and from what i understand math has a lot to do with engineering obviously), and as long as i stay on track (which i should definately) then i will be taking calculus as a senior..so engineers out there what math were you taking as a senior in HS or a freshman in college, and what other classes are important for an engineer
I'm assuming there are engineers, or even people who know a thing or two about engineering on the TLF!? THANKS!

O.K. What I was trying to point out was that the object was already in motion, suggesting that the object was in motion without having an external force to set it in motion from a ground state. That the object in motion is in a state of infinite. (Object in motion without a beginning).
Understanding of anything is dependent on definition and this may be an important note to make, because unlike Newton's 1st law of motion, the word perpetual suggest the use of an external force in order for something from the beginning to be set in motion. Correct?

Thank you. I still don't understand what you were saying was silly though.
how?
steve: saying that liebnitz is a challenger to newton, i understand, but saying that's his accomplishments or influence were greater, that seems silly
I didn't say that.
I merely said that he had a huge influence on math as is evidenced every time you write math down, for example/
(That should be a period, not a slash.)
steve: okay, maybe i made a mistake ***uming you were disputing my top 5 list steve: not as much as my 5 Newton did so much for math and physics that it's unbelievable. He's like Gauss in that respect. But to say that Leibniz didn't change math much is just plain wrong. steve: if you want to get technical, i said "really". Heh. When was the last time you wrote a derivative with a dot? Although, apparently f'(x) was also Newton's. that's the one i use. and df/dx As I understand it the integral sign and d/dx are Leibniz's.
