Integral calculus
The method of integration can be traced back to the Egyptians , in the Moscow Mathematical Papyrus ''circa'' 1800 BC, which gives the formula for finding the volume of a pyramid al frustrum Helmer Aslaksen. Why Calculus? National University of Singapore

are credited with a significant use of infinitesimal s. Democritus is the first person recorded to consider seriously the division of objects into an infinite number of cross-sections, but his inability to rationalize discrete cross-sections with a cone's smooth slope prevented him from accepting the idea. At approximately the same time, Zeno of Elea discredited infinitesimals further by his articulation of the paradoxes which they create.

History of calculus
Although Archimedes and others have used integral methods throughout history, and a great many (Barrow, Fermat, Pascal, Wallis and others) had previously invented the idea of a derivative, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Isaac Newton are usually credited with the invention, in the late , of differential and integral calculus as we know it today. It should be noted that Kowa Seki , a contemporaneous Japanese mathematician, also elaborated these concepts. Top
Leibniz and Newton
Leibniz and Newton, apparently working independently, arrived at similar results. It is thought that Newton's discoveries were made earlier, but Leibniz' were the first to be published. Newton provided a host of applications in physics f with respect to x is still used in physics today, especially for derivatives with respect to time. Outside of physics it has mostly been displaced by the notation f'(x) for the derivative of f with respect to x . Also current is Leibniz's more flexible differential notation df/dx , again for the derivative of f with respect to x . Leibniz's notation is especially popular in the many situations when writing only f' would be ambiguous.

        • Can I have my project on http://www.mysite.com locally in Asp.Net 2.0 ? I have an application in Asp.Net 1.0, which I run and debug on my local machine using the full url http://www.mysite.com. I change the hosts. file to point to 127.0.0.1, added the site to trusted sites and local intrante and somehow hacked the solution and project files. I have been working like this for a year. I need to do so, because it uses a complex url rewrite using subdomains and other stuff that I can't mimic if working under "localhost". Now, I'm migrating this to Asp.Net 2.0. I managed to migrate it correctly using http://localhost and compiled and uploaded it to my server and worked fine. But under VS2005 I can't get the project to open the files using http://www.mysite.com. When I setup everything as I usually do, I get this error instead: "Server error: authoring is disabled for this server " I find very little information about this error message. So, please any advise is very welcome. Regards, Tag: HONESTLY..,.. Tag: 449244
