DotComGuy, Gone and Forgotten
Michelle Delio Reader's advisory: Wired News has been unable to confirm some sources Geeks across the net are bidding DotComGuy a gleeful and sarcastic goodbye. The silicon shut-in walked out of his front door Monday after spending 365 days inside a house where he was monitored round-the-clock via a couple of dozen webcams that blasted the life and times of DotComGuy over the Internet. Visitors to the site could observe DotComGuy sitting, sneezing, shopping and sleeping. They could watch DotComDog chase a squeaky toy. But now, having completed what some are calling The Most Useless Achievement of Our Time , rumors are circulating that DotComGuy's sponsors pulled out months ago, and poor DotComGuy was left in the lurch without his promised $98,280 paycheck. E-mails to DotComGuy's media representatives return only an automated response, advising that they "may not be able to assist journalists on a tight deadline." But a

Jump to: navigation search DotComGuy was the name of a former computing systems manager who legally changed his name to DotComGuy from Mitch Maddox in 2000. His project was to live for one year (beginning on January 1, 2000) without leaving his house in Dallas Texas , ordering all food and necessities off the Internet and having them delivered. The house was monitored and several video feeds were streamed online. The project had a large number of sponsors including United Parcel Service Network Solutions Piper Jaffray Travelocity and Peapod It attracted a lot of attention in the media at first, but gradually public interest faded away. In the end of the project, DotComGuy legally changed his name back to Mitch Maddox and auctioned off http://DotComGuy.com . Website Upgraded to 2.5!
    04-Apr-08
DotComGuy.Net has been upgraded to the newest version of WordPress!
And I plan to do more reviews on websites and software. The WordPress design team and community have really out done themselves this time!
WordPress 2.5 is supposed have a better uploading system and more options for media (like movies and pictures).
It also has several new and/or enhanced customizable options and menus, you should really check out the dashboard, it is so cool and it is better for those who like to have many RSS Feeds on a single page.
And best of all, it is now even more code friendly in the WYSIWYZ editor! WordPress 2.5 gets a 4/5 stars. I would highly recommend it for all bloggers! Filed in Info Web Design Permalink

What Ever Happened to DotComGuy?
I had reason to investigate what happened to DotComGuy. You may remember him as the guy who lived in his apartment during all of 2000 , ordering all of his needs from the Internet and webcasting his life. In 2004, he failed to auction his trademark and domain name because the bid didn’t clear his reservation price, but claimed that he would work out some deal. I couldn’t easily find any further press reports, and I recently checked the website www.dotcomguy.com

  • A poster child for Internet idiocy Voyeurism! Consumerism! Hype! DotComGuy is a human incarnation of the worst the Net has to offer. By Janelle Brown 4:37 p.m. PDT July 12 DotComGuy is sitting on his couch, watching television. I can hear traffic going by his house, a horn honking. The phone rings, and he jumps up to answer it, pacing back and forth like a trapped man. "Oh yeah. Definitely. Awesome!" he exclaims into the receiver, in elevated tones designed to be picked up by a microphone and beamed to the ears of millions of invisible listeners. He hangs up the phone, sits down, stares blankly at the television. A few minutes later, two of DotComGuy's friends show up with a bag of food although the picture is grainy and dim on my computer monitor, I think I can make out french fries. The three sit in silence. They are watching "Seinfeld" reruns.
