Review of 27 Dresses DVD by Advantages: Wacky dresses Disadvantages: a bit cliche at moments The movie is called 27 Dresses because Jane (the pretty Katherine Heigl) has 27 bridesmaid dresses which she stores in her cupboard for sentimental reasons she loves weddings and she loves the idea of weddings as well. A New York Times review has aptly called her a 'serial bridesmaid.' This itself is supposed to be funny I guessed, but it's not really funny. To get on with the story (there isn't much of a story), Jane hopes that one day her Prince ... ...there's not much original about 27 DRESSES except perhaps the titular bridesmaid frocks, which are as varied and wacky as they come. But that doesn't mean that this romantic comedy isn't any fun. To verdict I would say this is an alright movie to watch if you are looking for a quite night in and have nothing else to do. Hughes (February 11, 1855 - June 3, 1947) John R. Hughes was born in Illinois, left for Texas and did some ranching. There were problems with cattle rustlers and John used his natural abilities to track them. He join the Texas Rangers in 1887 and patrolled the Mexican border. In 1893, John was appointed Captain. The exploits during his long career are varied and hair raising. Along with other Rangers, John's active career was spent chasing border ruffians, escaped criminals and rustlers. Ill health in his later years prompted John R. Hughes to commit suicide. The western writer Zane Grey spent some time with Hughes while he was on the job. Later, Grey wrote the book The Lone Star Ranger and dedicated the book to Hughes and the Texas Rangers. This book was also the basis for the character the Lone Ranger. Thus, some have concluded the Lone Ranger was based on John R. Hughes. John Hughes in buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
