65. Louise Gluck - Image And Emotion
Devoted to the works of 20th century poet louise Glück. Includes the fulltext of some works.
http://www.artstomp.com/gluck/index.htm
"...poems are autobiography... and comment, the metronomic alternation
of anecdote and response." *
Louise Glück
Poetry is the genre of writing that comes most close to confession. Nothing bares the soul like a well-crafted poem poured forth from the depths of the heart. Louise Glück is a contemporary American poet with a strength of voice and an amazing clarity of emotional language. Spare and elegant, she gives herself to her audience in each of her works.
Her images are gripping sometimes stark and at other times lush and vibrant. Common to all her pieces is the ability to move the reader to feel emotion. Maybe it is a sudden gasp of revelation of connection or perhaps the moment comes later, when the poem resurfaces from deep in memory. Emotions will be evoked. Glück has moved away from her early form of traditional collections of poems written over a period of time, to a series of book-length sequences with one common theme, each working together to compose the whole. Overwhelmingly renowned, she holds a Pulitzer Prize and is a former United States poet laureate.

Louise Michel
Louise Michel was born on 29th May 1830. She was raised by her mother and paternal grandparents. Her love and understanding of everything downtrodden, human and animal alike, developed from her empathy with her childhood world. Her compassion and sensitivity to suffering grew, as she grew. This, along with her instinct to rebel against social inequalities, led her along the revolutionary path. In January 1853 she took a position as a schoolmistress at Audelancourt. In the time she was teaching there, she constantly dreamed of going to Paris. Only there, she felt, could people fight the empire. In Paris, she concentrated on teaching, on writing poetry and reading. In the little free time she had left, she attended lectures on physics, chemistry and law. These courses helped to quench her thirst for knowledge. While walking home at night through the streets of Paris, she began to see more of the impoverished victims of Parisian society. She expressed how these people touched her, in her poetry:
I have seen criminals and whores
And spoken with them. Now I inquire

Thelma and Louise : Vigilantes with vaginas,

By Jim Emerson
T he tragi-comic (pseudo-)feminist road movie Thelma and Louise has been hailed as a breakthrough movie, one of those surprise zeitgeist-catching hits that expresses something essential about its time. But it's really a (fashion) victim of its time. Poor Thelma and Louise should have been made in the 1970s as an unpolished, low-budget production by Robert Altman or Bob Rafelson or someone with a feel for the raw and messy but sometimes extraordinary possibilities of human life. But it's too late for that now. It's the '90s, and everyone and everything is viewed as a commodity. And, as if we needed any more evidence of that sad fact, British director Ridley Scott ( Alien Blade Runner Black Rain ) has taken the lower-middle-class feminist rage at the heart of Thelma and Louise and plastic-packaged it as a feature-length perfume commercial targeted at knee-jerk "feminists."
