HOWTO - Use CVS
CVS is a project source management system, built on top of RCS. (RCS is a revision control system, that is limited to the file or directory level.) CVS can manage several different projects, and is designed for projects with multiple layers of directories or muliple code maintainer, and can keep a repository on one machine, and the developers can be on other machines.
Create CVS Repository
To set up a CVS repository, you must define the environment variable CVSROOT to point to the repository directory. A good choice may be (C-shell example) setenv CVSROOT /usr/local/src/cvsroot Once $CVSROOT is defined then you can do cvs init to initialize and set-up the CVS repository. This only needs to be done once.
CVS as a server
If you want CVS to work as a server then do the following steps. This only needs to be done if you plan to have developers access your CVS root from off the machine anonymously.
  • Generally, it's a good idea to set up CVS as it's own user and group:

The download contains source zips which can be attached to jars in the SDK's Java tooling and used for browsing and debugging.

    Anonymous CVS
For people actually want to change Eclipse code but who do not have the required commit rights in that area, all elements of the Eclipse projects are available via anonymous access to the development CVS repository. Using anonymous access you can checkout code and modify it locally, but cannot write it back to the repository. This is handy if you would like to fix a bug or add a feature. Get the code via anonymous access, do your work and then pass the work on to a committer (in a patch attached to a bug report) for inclusion in the repository. Committers love to have bugs fixed for them! To use anonymous access from a running Eclipse platform, simply go to a Repository View and add a new CVS repository location. Use the following information to connect:

Since its beginnings in May 2000 CVs.ac.uk has provided a structured and confidential way of displaying a CV to universities and other employers in addition to enabling each subscribing institution to match skills with vacancies. However, during a recent strategic review of the CVs.ac.uk service, it became clear that the current low rate of CV searches and subscribers to the base service meant that the Board of CVs.ac.uk decided, with great regret, that it was no longer viable for the company to further invest in service development. As a consequence of the board's decision, we are now winding down our operations. We would like to thank all the candidates who placed their CVs on the service and all the subscribing institutions for their support over the years. About CVs.ac.uk

    Welcome
    About us
CVS-Bulgaria (Cooperation for Voluntary Service - Bulgaria) was legally registered as an NGO on the 6th of June 2002. The organization has been active at national and international level since 1998 and it is part of the international voluntary service and peace organization - SCI (Service Civil International).
The aims and objectives of CVS-Bulgaria are to popularize the idea of voluntary work through organizing voluntary initiatives, to motivate young people to participate in voluntary actions, to promote and support international understanding and solidarity, social justice, and respect for the environment.
To achieve its aims CVS-Bulgaria works in cooperation with organizations and institutions in Bulgaria and abroad. The main activities of CVS-Bulgaria are to organize short-term international voluntary exchanges and also to organize training courses, seminars, study visits, workshops and discussions. CVS-Bulgaria gives young people the opportunity to participate in voluntary projects of different areas - culture, ecology, art, work with children and disadvantaged people, in Bulgaria and all over the world.
    History of CVS-Bulgaria
CVS-Bulgaria was founded by Bulgarian volunteers who participated in short term voluntary projects abroad - workcamps in Switzerland, Holland and Germany. We were greatly impressed with the exchanges, so we decided to organize similar camps in Bulgaria. During the summer of 1998 two workcamps were organized - one in the Central Balkan Mountains and one at Chairite lakes, in which young volunteers from different countries participated. In December 1998 a study visit was organized to Belgium and Holland, where the participants had the opportunity to become acquainted with the working system for voluntary service internationally, and to visit and build partnerships with organizations working in the area of international voluntary exchange. As a result of the study visit, EcoClub2000, Balkani Wildlife Society and Pro International Bulgaria established Cooperation for Voluntary Service- Bulgaria.

joey / CVS homedir, or keeping your life in CVS This article is provided for historical reasons, but I use subversion now. Svnhome explains how. I keep my life in a CVS repository. For the past two years, every file I've created and worked on, every email I've sent or received, and every config file I've tweaked have all been checked into my CVS archive. When I tell people about this, they invariably respond, "you're crazy!". After all, CVS is meant for managing discrete bodies of code, like free software programs that are worked on and available to a lot of people, or in-house projects that are collaboratively developed by several employees. CVS has a reputation of being a pain to deal with, and it has a lot of crufty bits that regularly drive users up the wall, like its mistreatment of directories. Why inflict the pain of CVS on yourself if you don't have to? Why do it on such a scale that it affects nearly everything you do with your computer? I get three major benefits from keeping my whole home directory in CVS:
    • home directory replication history distributed backups
The first of these is what originally drove me to CVS for my whole home directory. At the time, I had a home desktop machine, two laptops, and a desktop machine at work. Rounding this out were perhaps twenty remote accounts on various systems around the world, and many systems around the workplace that I might randomly find myself logging in to. I used all these accounts for working on the same projects, and was already using CVS for those projects.

    • E-mail Share CVS Caremark Corp.'s pharmacy benefits management subsidiary has agreed to a $38.5 million settlement of a civil deceptive-practices complaint filed by Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan and the attorneys general of 27 other states.
Madigan said in a statement Thursday that the settlement obliges the Woonsocket, R.I.-based company's Caremark Rx unit to "significantly alter the practices it uses to ensure that patients, physicians and health plans have the information needed to make the most cost-effective purchasing decisions."
Madigan and Maryland Atty Gen. Douglas Gansler led the investigation into Caremark's alleged "switching" practices.
In signing the consent decree, CVS Caremark noted, the company not only didn't acknowledge any wrongdoing but "expressly denied any and all allegations."
Caremark is one of the nation's largest pharmacy benefits managers. It contracts with employers to handle prescription drug claims for employees, and in doing so, negotiates discounts with drugstores and rebates with manufacturers.

    git for CVS users
Git differs from CVS in that every working tree contains a repository with a full copy of the project history, and no repository is inherently more important than any other. However, you can emulate the CVS model by designating a single shared repository which people can synchronize with; this document explains how to do that. Some basic familiarity with git is required. This tutorial introduction to git should be sufficient.
    Developing against a shared repository
Suppose a shared repository is set up in /pub/repo.git on the host foo.com. Then as an individual committer you can clone the shared repository over ssh with: $ git clone foo.com:/pub/repo.git/ my-project $ cd my-project and hack away. The equivalent of cvs update is $ git pull origin which merges in any work that others might have done since the clone operation. If there are uncommitted changes in your working tree, commit them first before running git pull. Note The pull command knows where to get updates from because of certain configuration variables that were set by the first git clone command; see
