The teaching material is presented according to the organization of the Medical Pharmacology course at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Most of these programs are stand alone teaching aids; however, our experience is that students should first read appropriate chapters in a pharmacology textbook or their lecture notes prior to working with these programs. Programs marked (R) are available only for the KUMC domain. Programs marked (M) were created in collaboration with the faculty of Marshall University, Department of Pharmacology. Programs marked X are under construction and not intended for student use.

Department of Pharmacology Overview
Pharmacology involves the discovery of new drugs, the investigation of how drugs work and the use of drugs to probe mechanisms of disease. But pharmacology also involves the elucidation and manipulation of macromolecular structures, the analysis of regulatory mechanisms in cell biology and development, and the translation of this information into clinical research. Thus, the science of pharmacology spans the most fundamental aspects of basic research, through transgenic animal models, to clinical investigation. Pharmacology at Penn addresses all of these issues in an exciting, collegial and interactive environment. University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

Summer Undergraduate Research in Pharmacology
For over 20 years, the Department of Pharmacology has sponsored the Summer Undergraduate Research Program for three to eight students per year. Generous funding has been provided by the American Society for Pharmacology and Therapeutics and from the HHMI -sponsored Summer Program in Undergraduate Research ( SPUR ), which is coordinated by the Department of Biology The Summer Undergraduate Research Program provides "hands on" research experience for sophomores and juniors in the area of molecular pharmacology. Although the projects will vary, each is related to a common theme - elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction of chemical agents such as drugs, hormones and neurotransmitters with biological systems. For more information about Pharmacology, click here Students spend at least ten weeks during the summer working on a research project in a lab selected according to their interests. In addition to research, weekly seminars are presented to acquaint the students with the broad range of research projects in the Pharmacology Department.

NetPharmacology
OCTOBER 2007 UPDATE: The NetPharmacology web site has been retired.
History NetPharmacology was a multimedia, hypertext version of the cardiovascular pharmacology notes used at the University of Utah School of Medicine and College of Pharmacy. The first version of NetPharmacology was developed during the Summer of 1994 and put online for students to use in the Fall of 1994. It is an evolving experiment in interactive teaching and learning and has been well received by students studying pharmacology at the University of Utah and at many other institutions throughout the world.
Developers of NetPharmacology
NetPharmacology was developed by Don Blumenthal, Sharon Dennis, Susan Roberts, Derek Cowan, Jeremy Garff, Joy Chan, Mark Christian, James Coombs, William Edwards, Brandon Hull, Rob Klein, and Gordon Smith, with funds provided by the University of Utah School of Medicine Educational Computing Committee and a grant to the Knowledge Weavers project from the National Library of Medicine.
