Christopher Langton (editor)
The MIT Press 1995 A book review by Danny Yee Artificial Life contains a selection of articles from the first three issues of the journal of the same name, chosen so as to give an overview of the field, its connections with other disciplines, and its philosophical foundations. It is aimed at those with a general background in the sciences: some of the articles assume a mathematical background, or basic biology and computer science. I found it an informative and thought-provoking survey of a field around whose edges I have skirted for years. Many of the articles take biology as their starting point. Charles Taylor and David Jefferson provide a brief overview of the uses of artificial life as a tool in biology. Others look at more specific topics: Kristian Lindgren and Mats G. Nordahl use the iterated Prisoner's Dilemma to model cooperation and community structure in artificial ecosystems; Peter Schuster writes about molecular evolution in simplified test tube systems and its spin-off, evolutionary biotechnology; Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz presents some examples of visual modelling of morphogenesis, illustrated with colour photographs; and Michael G. Dyer surveys different kinds of cooperative animal behaviour and some of the problems synthesising neural networks which exhibit similar behaviours. Other articles highlight the connections of artificial life with artificial intelligence. A review article by Luc Steels covers the relationship between the two fields, while another by Pattie Maes covers work on adaptive autonomous agents. Thomas S. Ray takes a synthetic approach to artificial life, with the goal of instantiating life rather than simulating it; he manages an awkward compromise between respecting the "physics and chemistry" of the digital medium and transplanting features of biological life. Kunihiko Kaneko looks to the mathematics of chaos theory to help understand the origins of complexity in evolution. In "Beyond Digital Naturalism", Walter Fontana, Guenter Wagner and Leo Buss argue that the test of artificial life is to solve conceptual problems of biology and that "there exists a logical deep structure of which carbon chemistry-based life is a manifestation"; they use lambda calculus to try and build a theory of organisation.

In this section we present you 2 simulations, bowth dealing with principle geometric rules leading to plan-like structures.
Both simulations work fairly in the same way:
Create a NetLogo-turtle that draws the first line (main branch). After she reached the end of her first step (starting-length), the turtle crates a new daugther-turtle that rotates to the right for a certain angle (sprout-angle). The original (mother) turtle turns in the other direction (main-angle). In the next step (2 turtles now), the length to be drawn is shortened, whereby main-shortening-factor sets the shortening of the line drawd by the mother-turtle, sprout-shortening-factor does the same for the daoughter’s line. This process is repeated several steps (4,8,16,... turtles) until they all rech thei maximum depth (number of sproutings). The number of maximum sproutings is decreased after each sprouting step. Please note, that the daugther turtle becomes the mother turtle for the subbranch she created. We created 2 simulation, one leading th things like

Tell the author what you think!
The basis of this game is that every player is a Scientist in a experiment tampering with life itself. This experiment is that each scientist in the group has a small force of artificial beings (Cyborgs) in a test area, a synthetic maze of steel with many rooms and living areas. the ultimate test of survival, the scientists must lead their cyborgs to being able to survive, and ultimatly open the exit door that leads to the next "zone". The maze itself consists of 10 Zones, each with a door that leads to a giant cargo elevator that can lift a scientists cyborgs to the next zone. All of the higher zones contain past experiments that lost control due to lesser scientists getting too cocky or getting themselves killed.
Excerpt from "Artificial Life"
Control:
Whenever your cyborgs think, they start to slowly realize that they are being controlled, eventually they may rise up and kill their scientist. you can make them respect you by certain actions defined by the GM. Generally, whenever you help them in a certain way they like you more. When they have weapons, they think even more, and realize your more mortal then they are. basically, don't be the weakest link. prove that your worth it as their leader.
Pets:
Eventually you will learn domestication, and be able to create animal cyborgs. these will help you in various ways, basically, they are "Familiars" that help you in certain respects. for instance, a small bird-cyborg would be helpful for grabbing that piece of paper on the other side of that big hole.... The player and GM must work together to create them, they must be fair to everybody yet be special. you can only have one type of pet at a time, but they can be created as long as you have the parts. be very realistic on parts, and realize that they are not immortal by any means.

HTTP (ang. Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to protok³Å‚ sieci WWW (World Wide Web).

Traditional robotics that uses Artificial Intelligence planning techniques to program robot behaviors works toward the first, while the Autonomous Robotics approach suggest that the second is a possibility. The robots built according to this approach should be able to adapt to both uncertain and incomplete information in constantly changing environments. At least two different techniques to reach this goal can be identified. One is to imitate the learning process of a single natural organism. Another, called Evolutionary Robotics, is to reproduce the phylogenetic evolution on populations of robots. Evolutionary Robotics lets a simulated evolution process develop adaptive robots. By applying selective reproduction on a population of robots the simulated evolution process is directly inspired by the Darwinian evolution theory.

Artificial life , also known as alife or a-life , is the study of life through the use of human-made analogs of living systems. Nature of the field
Although the study of artificial life does have some significant overlap with the study of artificial intelligence (AI), the two fields are very distinct in their history and approach. Organized AI research began early in the history of digital computers, and was often characterized in those years by a "top-down" approach based on complicated networks of rules. Students of alife did not have an organized field at all until the 1980s, and often worked in isolation, unaware of others doing similar work. Where they concerned themselves with intelligence at all, researchers tended to focus on the "bottom-up" nature of emergent behaviors Artificial life researchers have often been divided into two main groups (although other groupings are possible):
    • The strong alife
