    Starting JAVA Script
JavaScript is normally found embedded in HTML code. That is because JavaScript is run by the client computer's browser. JavaScript is supported by all internet browsers and was standardized by the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA). It was standardized under the name ECMAScript and it is vendor-neutral standard. Visual Basic Script (VBScript) on the other hand is a Microsoft supported language. When a person is surfing the web, they click on a link which will cause the browser to make a request for a specific HTML page or other type of file from a web server (HTTP server). These servers contain pages that are sent to the client using the HTTP protocol normally serviced on port 80. The HTML page may contain JavaScript which is run by the browser when the HTML page or other type of file is loaded.

  • What is JavaScript?
Once again, JavaScript is not HTML or a version of HTML. It is a distinct, separate scripting language. HTML is read and processed by the web browser. When the browser reads JavaScript code within your HTML document, it processes the code, then displays any output within the web page. The computer reading the JavaScript must have a JavaScript interpreter, a program that interprets the script and runs it, and that interpreter must be enabled.
    JavaScript Accessibility Issues
JavaScript allows developers to add increased interaction, information processing, and control in web-based content. However, JavaScript can also introduce accessibility issues. These issues include:

    What Is It?
JavaScript OSA is a port of the Mozilla JavaScript scripting system to the Macintosh in the form of a OSA (Open Scripting Architecture) component. You can use JavaScript OSA as a scripting language in any Macintosh application supporting OSA languages, such as the Script Editor included with the MacOS or our own Script Debugger product.
    Why Do I Need JavaScript?
Why Indeed. If you find AppleScript difficult to learn or you already know JavaScript from programming the Web, JavaScript OSA provides an alternative to AppleScript for controlling your Macintosh. JavaScript OSA provides full support for sending and receiving AppleEvents that leverages the AppleScript support found in the MacOS and the ever growing range of scriptable applications.

    Javascript Closures
    • Introduction The Resolution of Property Names on Objects
      Introduction
      Closure
A "closure" is an expression (typically a function) that can have free variables together with an environment that binds those variables (that "closes" the expression).
Closures are one of the most powerful features of ECMAScript (javascript) but they cannot be property exploited without understanding them. They are, however, relatively easy to create, even accidentally, and their creation has potentially harmful consequences, particularly in some relatively common web browser environments. To avoid accidentally encountering the drawbacks and to take advantage of the benefits they offer it is necessary to understand their mechanism. This depends heavily on the role of scope chains in identifier resolution and so on the resolution of property names on objects. The simple explanation of a Closure is that ECMAScript allows inner functions; function definitions and function expressions that are inside the function bodes of other functions. And that those inner functions are allowed access to all of the local variables, parameters and declared inner functions within their outer function(s). A closure is formed when one of those inner functions is made accessible outside of the function in which it was contained, so that it may be executed after the outer function has returned. At which point it still has access to the local variables, parameters and inner function declarations of its outer function. Those local variables, parameter and function declarations (initially) have the values that they had when the outer function returned and may be interacted with by the inner function.

Many web applications are comprised of quite a number of files, and finding the one you want to debug can be a chore. Firebug's script file chooser sorts and organizes files into very clean list that will help you find any file in a snap.
    Pause execution on any line
Firebug allows you to set breakpoints, which tell the debugger to pause execution when it reaches a specific line. While execution is pause, you can see the value of any variable and inspect objects while time is frozen. To set breakpoints, just click on any line number, and a red dot will appear to indicate that the breakpoint is set. Click the red dot again to remove the breakpoint.

    2. Embedding JavaScript into your HTML document
    (JavaScript code goes in here)
(rest of your HTML document goes here) To make an object (such as an image, a form button, or a hyperlink) on your page do something in response to a user action, you can add an additional attribute to the tag for that object. For example, the following HTML snippet pops up a thank you message when the user clicks on the link: Try it yourself! Just click on the following link: Bridge home page You're familiar with the HREF="" attribute that specifies the URL that the link points to, but note the additional onClick="" attribute. The stuff between those quotation marks is JavaScript code, which in this case pops up an alert box with the specified message. (Don't worry if you don't understand the stuff between the quotation marks; you'll learn it later on. The important thing right now is to understand the additional attribute.)

    What is JavaScript?
Javascript can be thought of as an extension to HTML which allows authors to incorporate some functionality in their web pages. So now, whenever the user presses the SUBMIT button, you don't necessarily have to invoke a cgi script to do the processing. If it is something simple, you can do the processing locally using Javascript and give back the results. Javascript can also be used in a number of ways to spice up your page.
    Who is the beginner?
No, it's not you. It's me. By the title, all I meant was that this is my Guide to Javascript. I have just started studying Javascript and this is my way of doing it. Just thought I'd warn you... As I learn Javascript, I'll be constantly improving this web site. So if you don't find anything of interest here now, please do come back later.
