An instance comprises a set of operating-system processes and memory -structures that interact with the storage . Typical processes include PMON (the process monitor) and SMON (the system monitor). Users of Oracle databases refer to the server-side memory-structure as the SGA (System Global Area). The SGA typically holds

Oracle: Database for Debian
Debian Packages: libc6-dev binutils Installing Oracle on Debian has involved obtaining the Oracle tar file, setting up an Oracle user and some Oracle groups, and running the Oracle installation software. We include here a collection of information for installing Oracle 8 and Oracle 10g, with some pointers regarding Oracle 9i. The good news is that since March 2006 Oracle have an apt repository for the unstable (sid) distribution, and have provided the Oracle XE packaged for Debian. It is available from http://oss.oracle.com/debian/

I've seen this article before and I've played with the settings it's
talking about - substituting the oracle client version 10 dll
information.
I think the first thing I want to solve is how to get either the OLE DB
Provider for Oracle or the Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle provider
installed on the 64bit win2003 box. I've tried installing MDAC 2.8
(2.8sp1 won't install on this OS - not sure if it's because it is 64bit
OS or WIN2K3) but it isn't showing up either in ODBC administrator or in SQL Server under the providers. The installation says it installs fine but I don't see any reference to them anywhere. I have rebooted...twice. Any ideas? -Original Message- From: Mordechai Danielov [mailto:mssqldba-ezmlmshield-x39344557.[Email address protected] Sent: Monday, June 26, 2006 4:46 PM To: LazyDBA Discussion Subject: RE: Linked Server Error Take a look at this MS KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;280106 -Original Message- From: Yvonne Tingstad [mailto:mssqldba-ezmlmshield-x32505351.[Email address protected]

Oracle Database is probably the best-known of all of the Oracle software applications, and one of their first. It quickly established itself as a robust, relational database management system in the business world. Unlike MicroSoft Access and IBM Lotus Approach which are primarily user-based and resident on local computers, Oracle Database is primarily a server-based system which requires the services of certified database administrators (

10G release 2

Physical Storage
The Database Console of 10G is one of the enhancements of the Oracle Database 10G with regard to administration, monitoring and tuning of database(s). Sometimes a DBA wants to reconfigure, create or recreate the Database Control Repository. When should one reconfigure the repository ? When the databaseserver hostname either its’ s IP-adres(ses) changes. In – rare - case when the ORACLE_SID changes In case when the services_name of a database as registered by PMON in the local listener changes. How I reconfigure the repository Most of the time the sysman schema , sysman is the owner of the repository, will be created during dbcreation (option if you use dbca). Changes in ipadresses, databaseserver name, database service names could trigger the need to reconfigure the dbconsole. Let ‘s show how I reconfigured my repository several times ( and successfully ). In this example we “imagine” the computername has been changed”, the same procedure can be used when ip addresses are changed. Ever had a laptop where a repository 10G was running well at work but not at home ?
