Welcome To SQLSecurity.com This site is dedicated to those who are serious about security - specifically, Microsoft SQL Server security. Whatever your feelings about Microsoft, the bottom line is that these servers are showing up everywhere and its time we learned how to properly secure them. At this site we do just that. We find problems, post solutions, and get the word out. If anyone tells you that security ends with the OS, they are dead wrong. Many times excellent network and host-based security has been bypassed exposing the very heart of the enterprise: all because of poor SQL Server configuration.

1.0 Introduction
When a machine has only port 80 opened, your most trusted vulnerability scanner cannot return anything useful, and you know that the admin always patch his server, we have to turn to web hacking. SQL injection is one of type of web hacking that require nothing but port 80 and it might just work even if the admin is patch-happy. It attacks on the web application (like ASP, JSP, PHP, CGI, etc) itself rather than on the web server or services running in the OS.
This article does not introduce anything new, SQL injection has been widely written and used in the wild. We wrote the article because we would like to document some of our pen-test using SQL injection and hope that it may be of some use to others. You may find a trick or two but please check out the "9.0 Where can I get more info?" for people who truly deserve credit for developing many techniques in SQL injection.

Welcome to the online free SQL tutorial at webdevelopersnotes.com What is SQL?
The S tructured Q uery L anguage is used in manipulating data stored in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). SQL provides commands through which data can be extracted, sorted, updated, deleted and inserted. SQL has the full support of ANSI (American National Standards Institute), which has laid down certain rules for the language.
SQL can be used with any RDBMS such as MySQL, mSQL, PostgresSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Access, Sybase, Ingres etc. All the important and common SQL statements are supported by these RDBMS, however, each has its own set of proprietary statements and extensions.

SQL stands for Structured Query Language and is used to pull information from databases.SQL offers many features making it a powerfully diverse language that also offers a secure way to work with databases.
SQL - Fundamentals
SQL alone can input, modify, and drop data from databases. In this tutorial we use command line examples to show you the basics of what we are able to accomplish. With the use of web languages such as HTML and PHP, SQL becomes an even greater tool for building dynamic web pages. To get started you will need a working database program such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, or Mysql. For more information and installation help on either of the above database programs, we suggest you go straight to the developer homepages at:

Overview Exchange SQL Virtual Systems ... Applications SQL SQL Data Recovery and Protection with Double-Take® from Double-Take Software. Why do you need SQL recovery from Double-Take? While SQL Server 2005 offers options for improving database protection and recovery, none of them is intended to provide a complete disaster recovery solution. In today's environment, corporate and regulatory mandates as well as service level agreements drive many of these requirements beyond what native SQL Server data protection and recovery options can provide. Double-Take offers a better, more reliable solution for SQL recovery. Double-Take from Double-Take Software provides superior SQL recovery via real-time data replication, patented database crash consistency, unlimited distance replication, monitoring and automated failover capabilities for SQL 7.0, 2000 and 2005. Most Microsoft SQL recovery and protection strategies involve a nightly full backup of the data, typically to tape. However, this method of SQL recovery only protects yesterday's work. Any data that has been entered into the database since the nightly backup is not protected and would have to be manually recreated if the production system failed. Since critical data is created and manipulated every second of every work day, you have to ask yourself: Can you afford to lose up to an entire day's worth of data?

This publication announces adoption of American National Standard Database Language SQL, ANSI X3.135-1992, as the Federal Information Processing Standard for Database Language SQL (FIPS SQL). The exact specification is in Section 10 of this standard. ANSI SQL is a revision and replacement of two previous American National Standards, ANSI X3.135-1989 and ANSI X3.168-1989. It specifies the syntax and semantics of SQL language facilities for defining and accessing SQL databases. These facilities include:

What is SQL and where does it come from?
Structured Query Language (SQL) is a language that provides an interface to relational database systems. The proper pronunciation of SQL is "ess cue ell," and not "sequel" as is commonly heard. SQL was developed by IBM in the 1970s for use in System R, and is a de facto standard, as well as an ISO and ANSI standard. In common usage SQL also encompasses DML (Data Manipulation Language), for INSERTs, UPDATEs, DELETEs and DDL (Data Definition Language), used for creating and modifying tables and other database structures. The development of SQL is governed by standards. A major revision to the SQL standard was completed in 1992, called SQL2. SQL3 support object extensions and are (partially?) implemented in Oracle8 and 9i. Example SQL statements: CREATE TABLE table1 (column1 NUMBER, column2 VARCHAR2(30));

Lightweight 100% Java SQL Database Engine downloads: latest news 28 July 2007 - Version 1.8.0.8 bug-fix release will be released soon. We have been too busy developing to update the web site with news. Here is the latest snapshot of what's been going on behind the scenes: The next major version of HSQLDB (1.9.0) will be released later this year. This version has been under intense development in the last two years. Support for very large, disk-based result sets, date-time arithmetic and the INTERVAL type, new query processor and optimiser, are among the features already developed and committed to SVN. More scalability and standard-compliance is currently under development. The alpha release has been delayed as we have been adding support for SQL features such as domains and distinct types, SQL triggers, and much more. Parallel to the development of the new "classic" version of the engine (see above), a separate version with multiversion row concurrency control was successfully developed and has undergone internal tests. We have yet to decide on the release schedule for this. If you need this for a commercial project, please let us know.

Mimer SQL Validator Ensure that You Maintain Portability All too often people find themselves locked into a specific DBMS because their SQL code doesn't conform to the SQL standard. Here at Mimer Information Technology, we pride ourselves on conforming to the SQL standard and we play an active role in the Database Languages standardization group which determines exactly what is SQL standard. You can be certain that your SQL conforms to SQL standards by using our unique Mimer SQL Validators. Also, use the Core SQL:1999 feature comparison chart to see the features available in various database systems. Mimer SQL Validators Many applications lack portability between different DBMS products due to vendor-specific lock-ins! By using our on-line Mimer SQL Validators, you can easily verify that your SQL statements conform to the SQL standard. Mimer SQL Validator provides you with vital information on your SQL code. Does it conform to Core SQL? Does it use features outside Core SQL? Is your SQL statement incorrect or incomplete? Mimer SQL Validator gives you the low down on your code and helps you by providing a list of lexical units (tokens) and a suggested correction. Also, use the validator to find out exactly which words are vendor-reserved. You are welcome to use our validator products below!
