Surveying and Mapping
Thank you for your interest in the Surveying and Geomatics Sciences Program at Troy University. Troy University is an excellent choice to meet your educational objectives. It is small enough to provide the personal attention you deserve in one-on-one student advising and small class sizes, but big enough to provide the facilities and advanced technical equipment necessary to understand the fundamental concepts of your chosen profession.
The general program of study for a four-year degree in geomatics is enclosed. This program of study can be adjusted to meet your specific needs and interests in the field of geomatics. The core courses in the major provide a study of the several sub disciplines in Geomatics: land surveying, land development, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geodesy, and geographic information systems (GIS). The eighteen semester hour minor provides the opportunity to prepare for a specific job opportunity after graduation, business ownership, or graduate school. Excellent student advising is available to you to help you make these choices.
Our program has the active support of the Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Students can apply for the scholarships provided by ASPLS and find that the Society provides for their attendance at ASPLS conventions and conferences at no cost. Join the growing Geomatics Program at Troy University. Contact Dr. Steve Ramroop, at (334) 670-5693 or by email at

Surveying and Mapping Science Program
Surveying and Mapping at ETSU
This program is one of the top Surveying and Mapping programs in the United States. At ETSU surveying has been offered for long time and in 1987 the existing program was revised and expanded. The goal was to create a four-year degree in surveying and mapping science that could meet the needs of the surveying profession in the central southeastern region of the nation. The program has been accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ASAC of ABET). To keep the program active and growing we are always looking for new students. Many of our current students have had some field experience in surveying, and most of them have taken some college classes at another institution. We are always willing to discuss transfer agreements with two-year programs at many institutions who offer surveying, civil engineering, drafting and related studies. When students have the long-term goal of becoming licensed professional surveyors and may be having their own business, working toward a four-year degree is one step toward that goal.

The photomosaic that forms the base for this globe combines a gray-shaded relief airbrush image with color-coded topographic data. The shaded relief data provide interpretations of lunar morphology based on lunar images and were used as a grayscale image for this global mosaic. Topographic data from the Clementine laser altimeter were combined with topographic data collected photogrammetrically from Clementine stereo images. The resulting topographic product was colored based on elevation value and combined with the shaded relief data to form the final photomosaic.

http://grove.ufl.edu/~geomatic/
Dedicated to the purpose of maintaining and promoting the status of Geomatics/Surveying and Mapping as an ideal profession, the Geomatics Student Association (GSA) was organized to recognize the characteristics of an individual deemed to be fundamental to the successful pursuit of a career in Geomatics, and to aid in the development of those characteristics in the Geomatics student.
Geomatics, an application of scientific and mathematical principles to the practical needs of society, is assuming a constantly increasing responsibility for the physical well-being of all people, and thus calling for competence of the highest order. This responsibility can be discharged only by a professional group whose members possess a good basic technical ability, intelligence, moral integrity, and effective social pose in their relationship with the larger community of which they are a part. To contribute to the improvement of the profession, GSA fosters the development and exercise of sound traits of character and technical ability among Geomatic/Surveying and Mapping students, by precept and example, toward an even higher standard of professional service.

ABET, Inc. , is the recognized U.S. accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. Accreditation ensures the quality of the postsecondary education students receive. ABET was established in 1932 and is now a federation of 28 professional and technical societies representing the fields of applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. Through the hard work and dedication of more than 1,500 volunteers, ABET currently accredits some 2,700 programs at over 550 colleges and universities nationwide. Click here to learn more about the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) , Inc. and why accreditation is important when investigating educational opportunities. ACSM supports the accreditation activities of ABET in a number of ways. One way in which this is done is that ACSM pays fees to ABET each year. One fee is as a member organization of ABET, and an additional fee is paid for each of the accredited programs throughout the U. S. that provide education for surveying/ geomatics Equally important is the efforts of a group of ACSM members who volunteer their time to serve as program observers and evaluators. Each year, they visit selected programs to either provide a critique associated with acceptance for accreditation, or a review for continued accreditation. Some of these volunteers also serve on the various
