Junior Paleontologists
Junior Paleontologists at Egg Mountain Each year Project Exploration selects a new class of one-dozen 12-17 year old Chicago Public School minority students and maintains a relationship with them until they graduate from high school. Students are selected based on their interest level, rather than grades or test scores. The program targets students may not be academically successful, but who are curious and open minded.
Learning about the different parts
of a dinosaur skull The Junior Paleontologist program launches with an intensive three-week summer fieldwork program that takes minority youth and girls to the Western United States for a comprehensive experience in paleontology fieldwork. During the first two weeks, the students study geology, anatomy, and paleontology, while building academic skills at the University of Chicago. Then they head to Montana, South Dakota, or Wyoming, where they work alongside scientists on fossil-rich terrain. Once the students return, they receive year-round mentoring and leadership development opportunities until their high school graduation.

Fort Peck, Montana 59223 George Stanley-Director In April of 2004, FPPI delivered it's first Peck's Rex skeleton ever assembled to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore. This exhibit was very special from a variety of aspects. It was put in their new dinosaur hall, a large area that overlooks the bay. It was the first Tyrannosaurus rex mounted with a gastralia basket anywhere in the world. It was also a very special mount and pose. Now, the new dinosaur hall is complete. If you are in the area, stop and see what a great job the folks at the MSC did with their new space and exhibit.

FACILITIES The Shuler Museum of Paleontology maintains research and teaching collections in microfossils, fossil invertebrates, fossil plants, and recent and fossil vertebrates. Active areas of current research involve Mesozoic and Cenozoic vertebrates and plant macrofossils, and palynology. Vertebrate collections in the Shuler Museum of Paleontology have special strengths in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic of Texas, Mesozoic of Southwestern U.S., and representative and research collections from active projects outside the U.S., including Kenya, Malawi, Cameroon, Pakistan, Mexico, and Yemen. The collections and personnel from the Shuler Museum are actively used and involved in outreach programs through area public museums. One such project is the development of a traveling exhibit with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History entitled Lone Star Dinosaurs
Facilities of the Shuler Museum of Paleontology include laboratories for fossil preparation, molding and casting, pollen extraction and anlysis, and morphometric analysis. Since its inception in the late 1940s, the aim of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology has been to present a comprehensive and authoritative yet compact statement of knowledge concerning groups of invertebrate fossils. Professor Raymond C. Moore, the project's founder, envisaged the Treatise as ultimately comprising three hefty volumes with a total of some 3,000 pages. The Treatise , expanding in fifty years beyond Moore's wildest dream, now comprises 49 volumes and involves the work of more than 300 authors worldwide with another dozen or so volumes in various stages of preparation.
for information about the latest Treatise volume: Part H, Brachiopoda,vol.6.
In the near future the Treatise will be online in the form of a searchable database allowing authors to cooperatively share in the production of Treatise volumes.
R.C. Moore, founder of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology , stands beside some of the initial volumes of the series.
Assistant editor Jill Hardesty (1995-present) stands beside the current stack of Treatise volumes.

Within the overall mission of the AMNH, the Division of Paleontology seeks to describe the diversity of extinct invertebrates and vertebrates and explore the mechanisms driving their evolution and extinction. In fulfillment of this objective the Department collects, maintains, and researches specimens of fossil and subfossil invertebrates and vertebrates, and the data associated with these specimens, aiming always to provide the highest standards of curatorial care, and to promote and assist access to the collections by bona fide scholars. Paleontology is the study of ancient organisms, and Invertebrate Paleontology is the study of ancient invertebrates, typically defined as any organisms without backbones, excluding plants and all those pesky bacteria. The study of invertebrate fossils has long been a strong component of the Wooster geology curriculum; many paleontologists found their start in the discipline here. The first paleontologist on Wooster's faculty was Richard Liebe, who taught here from 1961 through 1967. Dr. Liebe's specialty was the systematics and biostratigraphy of conodonts. Richard Osgood was the paleontologist at Wooster from 1967 until his death in 1981. He achieved international recognition for his pioneering work on invertebrate trace fossils, particularly those in the Lower and Middle Paleozoic. Since 1981 Wooster's paleontologist has been Mark Wilson,

    A little late.....
New and exciting discoveries occurred in spurts and jumps as the new year begin, and with little time to report on these discoveries, I was left to quickly scratch my head and move onward toward my own research. Leaving the dreams of reporting on the new fossil discoveries of 2008 until I had a little more time. Hence, it is mid-way through the month of February and I have not yet made an entry into the Vertebrate Paleontology blog. Don’t fault me for this lack of attentiveness, as I have been thinking of changing the format of the blog. Either listing all the current vertebrate paleontology articles that come across my desk, with little commentary or become a Gonzo scientist, and offer discussion of my own ideas and thoughts on the subject. Having little time between teaching and writing my PhD dissertation, I neglected my blogging duties, and have let the site decay. Never fear. To make up for it, I have listed all the articles that have come out this year.
    Enjoy:

      Top 100 Open Courseware Projects
Published on Wednesday 16th of May, 2007 Open courseware projects provide a head rush for many autodidactics because those projects often offer lecture notes, chapters or entire textbooks online, illustrations, charts, and other tools that help the reader learn a given subject. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) gained notoriety for its online open courseware ( OCW ) offerings and many other colleges have followed this example; however, the self-learner probably knows that many college professors have offered their course outlines and materials online for years before MIT laid claim to this effort. Whether you're taking a break from tuition courses, need supplementary materials for college courses, require materials to help out on the job, or want to gain life experience, online open courseware can
