It is also becoming more common in student-athletes playing close contact sports, like football, wrestling, and lacrosse. What does MRSA look like? It begins as a pimplelike lesion that has popped, looking like a spider bite, a boil, or an infected mosquito bite. It then progresses to a painful, swollen, red area, and /or has pus or other drainage.

Lead-acid industrial batteries are used in two main applications:- (i)Motive power - to drive/power forklift trucks etc. (ii)Standby power - to provide backup for equipment in the event of a mains failure.
HAZARDS
  • Chemical : Batteries contain sulphuric acid, which is poisonous, corrosive and causes burns/irritation on contact with the skin or eyes. Electrical Explosion : Hydrogen gas is given off by the battery during charging. There is a risk of fire and/or explosion if flammable mixtures of hydrogen with air accumulate. Handling
SAFE WORKING PRACTICES
Chemical
  • Provision/awareness of eyewash or drench facilities etc.

Lasting Brain Damage Found From Prenatal Mercury Exposure
An 18-year study of more than 800 children whose mothers ate mercury-containing seafood while pregnant shows that the toxic effects of prenatal exposure to mercury on brain functions can be permanent. Even low levels of mercury from the maternal diets produced slowing of hearing-related electrical signals in the brain when the children were tested at age 14. The teenagers also had impaired neurological regulation of their heart rate, a sign of mercury toxicity in the brain stem.
