Da queste ricerche si sono originate molte classi di farmaci importanti, fra cui gli antistaminici e i miorilassanti. Per i suoi studi, nel 1957 Bovet fu insignito del premio Nobel per la fisiologia o la medicina. Bovet studi² fisiologia e zoologia all'Universit  di Ginevra, dove ottenne il dottorato nel 1929. Quindi trascorse i due decenni successivi a Parigi, presso l'Istituto Pasteur, dove divenne direttore del laboratorio di chimica terapeutica. Nel 1947 Bovet si trasfer¬ in Italia, prima lavorando all'Istituto Superiore di Sanit  (1947-1964) e poi insegnando all'Universit  di Sassari (1964-1971) e all'Universit  di Roma (1971-1982). Fu, inoltre, direttore del laboratorio di psicobiologia e farmacologia del CNR (1969-1975) e socio nazionale dei Lincei (1958). Bovet wurde am 23. M¤rz 1907 in Neuch¢tel als Sohn eines Psychologen geboren. In Genf studierte er bis 1927 Zoologie und vergleichende Anatomie . 1929 promovierte er ¼ber den Einfluss des Nervensystems auf die Organregeneration und ging dann ans Institut Pasteur , wo er sich pharmakologischen Fragestellungen widmete und dessen Labor f¼r Therapeutische Chemie er ab 1939 leitete. 1933 gelang Bovet mit der Entwicklung des synthetischen Wirkstoffes Prosympal ein erster Schritt f¼r die sp¤tere Entwicklung von Medikamenten gegen Bluthochdruck. Mitte der vierziger Jahre entwickelte er eines der ersten synthetischen Pharmazeutika zur Behandlung der Parkinsonkrankheit . Von 1969 bis 1975 war er Direktor des Labors f¼r Psychobiologie (dieses Fach lehrte er bis 1982) und Psychopharmakologie in Rom.
