In 1914, after moving from one distinguished position to another, he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor in the University of Berlin and became a German citizen once again. In 1921 Einstein won the Nobel Prize in Physics. He remained in Berlin until 1933 (after Hitler came to power) when he renounced his German citizenship for political reasons. At that time he emigrated to the United States where he became Professor of Theoretical Physics in the newly created Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton. In 1940 he became a U.S. citizen and in 1945 he retired.
After WWII, Einstein was offered the position of President of the State of Israel, which he declined. He became a leading figure in the World Government Movement as well as continuing to work towards the unification of the basic concepts of physics.

In 1999, Time Magazine named Albert Einstein "Person of the Century". Time Magazine wasn’t the first to think so. It is believed by many today as well as in years past that Albert Einstein was by far the most brilliant physicist of all time. Often synonymous with genius, the name Einstein still reels in attention when someone is compared to that of the more beautiful minds. Albert Einstein graduated from ETH in 1900. He earned his degree in physics. After graduation, Einstein took a position in a patent office in Bern. It was believed that this position was a waste of the brilliant talent that he possessed. However, in 1905, he did write four papers that would be published while he worked at the patent office. Today, these papers are still considered remarkable and because of these four papers, 1905 was dubbed as Einstein’s "Wonderful Year". Einstein would continue to use his mind to create ingenious theories while writing about them as well as developing them. He is known for so many accomplishments including general relativity, special relativity, Photoelectric effect, United Field Theory, and others. In 1924, Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Years later, in 1955, Albert Einstein died of a ruptured aneurism. He was seventy-six years old.

Z Albert Einstein Biography Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 - April 18, 1955) was a theoretical physicist, with considerable applied mathematical abilities, who is widely regarded as the greatest scientist of the 20th century. He proposed the theory of relativity and also made major contributions to the development of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics and cosmology. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect and "for his services to Theoretical Physics".
After his general theory of relativity was formulated, Einstein became world-famous, an unusual achievement for a scientist. In his later years, his fame exceeded that of any other scientist in history, and in popular culture, Einstein has become synonymous with someone of very high intelligence or the ultimate genius. His face is also one of the most recognizable the world-over. In 1999, Einstein was named "Person of the Century" by Time Magazine. This popularity has also lead to a widespread use of Einstein in advertisement and merchandising, eventually including the registration of Albert Einstein as a trademark.
In his honor, a unit used in photochemistry, the einstein, as well as the chemical element einsteinium were named after him.

Albert Einstein contributed more than any other scientist to the modern vision of physical reality. His theory of relativity is held as human thought of the highest quality. Hermann , ran an electrical technology business, giving Albert an early introduction to the power of science. But the business often teetered on the brink of failure. Soon afterwards the family moved to Munich, a bustling city where his father hoped to find a better environment for his shaky business. His mother, Pauline , forced him to take violin lessons. At first he objected vehemently, but in time he came to love the music with a passion. On the School class photograph in Munich, 1889, Albert is in the front row, second from right. He did well only in mathematics and in Latin (whose logic he admired). In 1894 Einstein's family moved to Milan and Einstein decided officially to relinquish his German citizenship in favour of Swiss. In 1895 Einstein failed an examination that would have allowed him to study for a diploma as an electrical engineer at Zurich. After attending secondary school at Aarau Einstein returned (1896) to the Zurich Polytechnic, graduating (1900) as a secondary school teacher of mathematics and physics. Marcel Grossman, whom Einstein met in Zurich, quickly recognized his friend's genius. He did all he could to promote Einstein's career. A photograph taken at this time shows Marcel Grossman, Einstein, Gustav Geissler, and Eugen Grossman.

    Major Notes:
    • Albert Einstein was a major scientist who predicted the danger of atomic weapons.
The Einsteins were non-practising Jews and Albert was sent to a Catholic school.
Einstein, however, was given lessons in Judaism at home by his parents.
In 1881, the family moved to Munich, where he received his early education.
In school, Einstein was thought to be a slow learner.
Starting at age six, Einstein began seven years of taking violin lessons.
He marveled at a compass given to him by his father in that an outside force made the needle move.
At age 12, he started to learn mathematics and two uncles encouraged him to read books on science and mathematics.
His parents moved to Italy in 1894 but Einstein was sent to school in Aarau, Switzerland.
He renounced his German citizenship in 1896.
Einstein failed an exam required by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology to enter their electrical engineer program.
He was accepted into the school later and trained to be a physics and mathematics teacher.

He is perhaps the best-known scientist of the 20th century. Einstein was born in Ulm on March 14, 1879, and spent his youth in Munich, where his family owned a small shop that manufactured electric machinery. He did not talk until the age of three, but even as a youth he showed a brilliant curiosity about nature and an ability to understand difficult mathematical concepts. At the age of 12 he taught himself Euclidean geometry.

He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, scince for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despiceable an ignoreable war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

One reason why mathematics enjoys special esteem, above all other sciences, is that its laws are absolutely certain and indisputable, while those of all other sciences are to some extent debatable and in constant danger of being overthrown by newly discovered facts. In spite of this, the investigator in another department of science would not need to envy the mathematician if the laws of mathematics referred to objects of our mere imagination, and not to objects of reality. For it cannot occasion surprise that different persons should arrive at the same logical conclusions when they have already agreed upon the fundamental laws (axioms), as well as the methods by which other laws are to be deduced therefrom. But there is another reason for the high repute of mathematics, in that it is mathematics which affords the exact natural sciences a certain measure of security, to which without mathematics they could not attain.

Early Reactions to Einstein The difficulty that others had with Einstein's work was not because it was mathematically complex or technically obscure; the problem resulted, rather, from Einstein's beliefs about the nature of good theories and the relationship between experiment and theory. Although he maintained that the only source of knowledge is experience, he also believed that scientific theories are the free creations of a finely tuned physical intuition and that the premises on which theories are based cannot be connected logically to experiment. A good theory, therefore, is one in which a minimum number of postulates is required to account for the physical evidence. This sparseness of postulates, a feature of all Einstein's work, was what made his work so difficult for colleagues to comprehend, let alone support. Einstein did have important supporters, however. His chief early patron was the German physicist Max Planck. Einstein remained at the Patent Office for four years after his star began to rise within the physics community. Then he moved rapidly upwards in the German-speaking academic world. His first academic appointment was in 1909 at the University of Zurich. In 1911 he moved to the German-speaking university at Prague, and in 1912 he returned to the Swiss National Polytechnic in Zurich. Finally, in 1913, he was appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics in Berlin.
