Guillemin wurde am 11. Januar 1924 in Dijon (Burgund) geboren. Er begann nach Abschluss der Schulausbildung 1943 an der Universit¤t Dijon Medizin zu studieren. Nach seiner Graduierung wechselte Guillemin an die Universit¤t von Lyon, wo er 1949 promovierte. Nach seiner Promotion setzte der Wissenschaftler sein Studium fort. Er wechselte an die Universit¤t Montreal (Kanada) und arbeitete am Institut f¼r experimentelle Medizin und Chirurgie. Hier verlagerte Guillemin seinen Schwerpunkt auf Endokrinologie . In Montreal erlangte er 1953 seinen zweiten Doktortitel, diesmal in Physiologie. Noch im selben Jahr ¼bernahm er am Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston (Texas) eine Stelle als Assistant Professor, einen Posten, den er bis 1970 innehatte. SchlieŸlich ¼bernahm Guillemin den Lehrstuhl f¼r Neuroendokrinologie am Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla (bei San Diego, Kalifornien). 1989 wurde der Physiologe emeritiert.
