Questa scoperta, per la quale gli fu attribuito nel 1985 il premio Nobel per la fisica, costituisce un’ulteriore prova delle teorie che riguardano i movimenti elettronici all’interno degli atomi. Von Klitzing studi² a Braunschweig e a W¼rzburg, in Germania. Dal 1975 al 1976 lavor² a Oxford, in Inghilterra, dove svolse una ricerca con i potenti magneti superconduttori che vi venivano realizzati. Nel 1978 torn² all’Universit  di W¼rzburg, per andare poi all’Istituto Max von Laue-Paul Langevin a Grenoble, in Francia, dove port² a termine la ricerca che gli fece ottenere il Nobel. Klaus von Klitzing wurde am 28. Juni 1943 in Schroda (Posen) geboren. Von 1980 bis 1984 hatte von Klitzing den Lehrstuhl f¼r Physik an der Technischen Universit¤t in M¼nchen inne. Im Jahr 1984 wurde er zum Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut f¼r Festk¶rperphysik in Stuttgart ernannt. Als bedeutendste Leistung von Klitzings gilt die Entdeckung des quantisierten Hall-Effekts , des so genannten Quanten-Hall-Effekts (auch Klitzing-Effekt). F¼r diese Arbeiten erhielt Klaus von Klitzing 1985 den Nobelpreis f¼r Physik.
