India Occupation Roman Catholic nun, humanitarian Mother Teresa Albanian Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu IPA ['agnɛs 'gɔndʒa bɔ'jadʒu] August 26 September 5 ) was an Albanian Roman Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata (Calcutta), India in 1950. For over forty years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries. By the 1970s she had become internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless, due in part to a documentary , and book, Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm Muggeridge . She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity continued to expand, and at the time of her death it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children's and family counseling programs, orphanages, and schools. Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

Mother Teresa Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person. Mother Teresa Each one of them is Jesus in disguise. Mother Teresa (1910-1997)
Mother Teresa, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Yugoslavia, felt a calling early to serve the poor. She joined an Irish order of nuns serving in Calcutta, India, and received medical training in Ireland and India. She founded the Missionaries of Charity and focused on serving the dying, with many other projects as well. She was able to garner considerable publicity for her work which also translated into successfully financing the expansion of the order's services. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She died in 1997 after long illnesses, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003.

  • Holiness is not the luxury of the few; it is a simply duty, for you and for me, because Jesus has very clearly stated, "Be ye holy as my father in heaven is holy." So let us pray for each other that we grow in love for each other, and through this love become holy as Jesus wants us to be for he died out of love for us.
    One day I met a lady who was dying of cancer in a most terrible condition. And I told her, I say, "You know, this terrible pain is only the kiss of Jesus — a sign that you have come so close to Jesus on the cross that he can kiss you." And she joined her hands together and said, "Mother Teresa, please tell Jesus to stop kissing me.
    • Address to the National Prayer Breakfast (3 February 1994) Unsourced variant or paraphrase: I think it is very good when people suffer. To me, that is like the kiss of Jesus. But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?

This inscription is attributed to Mother Teresa.
It is a plaque on the wall of her home for children in Calcutta. People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends
and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway. HOME

Hero is Vira in Sanskrit. Spiritual development are of three stages: Pasu, Vira and Divya. Pasu is spiritually naive; Vira is spiritual initiate; Divya is god-like and spiritually enlightened. Mother Teresa
About 20 years before India gained its freedom, Christian missionaries from Yugoslavia came to India to render humanitarian services. They were extremely affected by the conditions of poverty rampant in India and so invited people from their country to serve here. Amongst these was a special girl called Agnes Goxa Bojaxiu, who is today known as Mother Teresa.
