Yukawa was born in Tokyo and was educated at the universities of Kyōto and Ōsaka. He became a lecturer in physics at Kyōto University in 1932 and was made professor in 1939. Yukawa also taught (1933-36) at Ōsaka University and was assistant professor there until 1939. He was visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton, New Jersey, in 1948 and at Columbia University from 1949 to 1953. Yukawa became (1950) professor emeritus at Ōsaka University and was named (1953) director of the Research Institute for Fundamental Physics at Kyōto University. Yukawa erhielt 1949 als erster Japaner den Physik Nobelpreis f¼r seine auf der Theorie der Kernkr¤fte beruhende Vorhersage der Existenz der Mesonen . Nachdem er 1929 seinen Abschluss an der Universit¤t Kyoto bekam, blieb er als Lektor weitere vier Jahre an der Universit¤t. Dort besch¤ftigte er sich vor allem mit der theoretischen Physik und insbesondere mit Elementarteilchen 1932 heiratete er Sumiko und hatte mit ihr zwei S¶hne, Harumi und Takaaki. Im Alter von 26 wurde er Professor an der Osaka University 1935 ver¶ffentlichte er schlieŸlich seine Theorie von den Mesonen, die die Kurzreichweitigkeit der Wechselwirkung zwischen Protonen und Neutronen erkl¤rte. 1940 wurde er Professor an der Kyoto Universit¤t und erhielt den Imperial Prize of the Japan Academy . 1943 erhielt er eine Auszeichnung f¼r kulturelle Verdienste von der japanischen Regierung. 1949 wurde er Professor an der Columbia University und bekam den Nobelpreis f¼r Physik.

Hideki Yukawa se narodil 23. ledna 1907 v Tokiu v Japonsku jako syn profesora zemìpisu na univerzitì v Kjótu. V Kjótu také vystudoval univerzitu a po zakonèení studia zde pøednášel. V roce 1933 byl jmenován profesorem na univerzitì v Osace, o šest let pozdìji se vrátil do Kjóta. Yukawa se jako vìdec zabýval teorií elementárních èástic. Teoreticky pøedpovìdìl pion – èástici, která má hmotnost pøibližnì 200 krát vìtší než elektron a podílí se na interakci mezi neutronem a protonem. Došel k názoru, že vazba mezi nukleony by mìla být zprostøedkována èásticemi, které jsou nabité a jejichž hmotnost je mezi elektronem a protonem. V roce 1935 tak teoreticky pøedpovìdìl existenci mezonù. Ty pak objevil Anderson v roce 1937 v kosmickém záøení. Yukawa také pracoval na unitární teorii silových fyzikálních polí. Po Yukawovi je pojmenován Yukawùv potenciál silné interakce. V roce 1949 mu byla udìlena Nobelova cena za fyziku za mezonovou teorii vazeb v atomovém jádru. Je také autorem mnoha populárnì - vìdeckých èlánkù.

Yukawa was born in Tokyo Japan . In 1929, after receiving his degree from Kyoto Imperial University he stayed on as a lecturer for four years. After graduation, he was interested in theoretical physics , particularly in the theory of elementary particles . In 1932, he married Sumi Sumi and had two sons, Harumi and Takaaki. In 1933 he became an assistant professor at Osaka University , at age 26. In 1935 he published his theory of mesons , which explained the interaction between protons and neutrons , and was a major influence on research into elementary particles.
