Artist: Parker, Jon Kimura
Parker solos at Winspear
EDMONTON Jon Kimura Parker answered his cell phone on the way to a B.C. ferry to begin a gruelling outreach tour in the Gulf Islands. The distinguished pianist, who received the Order of Canada last year, performs his first Edmonton solo recital tonight at the Winspear, though he's played with the symphony several times. The occasion is close to Kimura Parker's heart - a benefit to launch the Marek Jablonski Prize for Chopin. This award will be given annually to a gifted young Canadian pianist who's outstanding in Chopin. The first winner, recently announced, is Thomas Yu, who studies at theUniversity of Saskatchewan.
