To meet increased needs for mental health services for veterans, especially those returning from the Global War on Terror, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is expanding its training programs for psychologists.
"Not all the wounds of war are visible," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "VA is committed to ensuring veterans receive world-class care for mental health services. This initiative meets our short-term needs, but it will also guarantee we have a pool of well-trained psychologists in the future."
VA, which has more than 11,000 mental health professionals to care for veterans, has hired more than 800 psychologists in the last three years. Because psychology is a key part of comprehensive health care, the Department anticipates an ongoing need to employ additional psychologists.

The Failed Health Care Reform Plan of 2009
Posted 24 March 2008 admin health care human rights Comments (0) Tagged: health care
The average compensation of a CEO in 1980 was about 42 times that of the average worker in the company; in 2006, it was more than 364 times.  Posted 12 March 2008 admin equality Comments (0) Tagged: inequality
Extreme economic inequality sharpens perhaps the ultimate contradiction between capitalism and democracy. This can be seen in the corrosive influence of money in the nation’s politics, as corporations and the wealthy buy ever more influence with their increasing opulence. Meanwhile, political participation by the working class and especially by the poor, preoccupied with the challenges of their daily lives and cynical about politics, trends down. Worst of all is the starvation of the public sector that occurs as the fate of the rich increasingly becomes decoupled from the rest of us, enabling them to opt for private solutions behind the high walls of their gated communities—in education, health care, public safety, and more. Posted 12 March 2008 admin equality human rights Comments (0) Tagged: economy inequality workers rights
With our great ingenuity, a better, more humane system is not out of reach. Health care should not be subject to the whims of profit-hungry corporations. It must be recognized as a universal human right. To put people through such tumultuous trials for a basic necessity is criminal. Life is difficult enough.

Psychology is a broad and varied subject. This breadth and diversity of thought can be seen by looking as some of the best known thinkers in psychology. While each theorist may have been part of an overriding school of thought, each brought a unique and individual voice and perspective to the field of psychology. A study that appeared in the July 2002 issue of the Review of General Psychology created a ranking of the 99 most influential psychologists. The rankings were mostly based on three factors: the frequency of journal citations, introductory textbook citations, and the survey responses of 1,725 members of the American Psychological Association.
