This article describes complex system as a type of system. For other meanings, see complex systems
A complex system is a system composed of interconnected parts that as a whole exhibit one or more properties (behavior among the possible properties) not obvious from the properties of the individual parts. A system’s complexity may be of one of two forms: disorganized complexity and organized complexity In essence, disorganized complexity is a matter of a very large number of parts, and organized complexity is a matter of the subject system (quite possibly with only a limited number of parts) exhibiting emergent properties. Examples of complex systems include ant colonies ants themselves, human economies climate nervous systems ... cells and living things, including human beings, as well as modern energy or telecommunication infrastructures. Indeed, many systems of interest to humans are complex systems. Complex systems are studied by many areas of natural science mathematics , and social science . Fields that specialize in the interdisciplinary study of complex systems include systems theory complexity theory systems ecology , and cybernetics

Emergence
What distinguishes a complex system from a merely complicated one is that some behaviors and patterns emerge in complex systems as a result of the patterns of relationship between the elements. Emergence is perhaps the key property of complex systems and a lot of work is being done to try to understand more about its nature and the conditions which will help it to occur.
Relationships are short-range
Typically, the relationships between elements in a complex system are short-range, that is information is normally received from near neighbours. The richness of the connections means that communications will pass across the system but will probably be modified on the way.
Relationships are non-linear
There are rarely simple cause and effect relationships between elements. A small stimulus may cause a large effect, or no effect at all.

    Complex System
    From DCSWiki
A complex system is a system whose properties are not fully explained by an understanding of its isolated parts and components: even if you understand each isolated part in detail, you may not fully understand the whole system. It can only be understood in terms of its parts and the interactions between them. Since this is a typical feature of unpredictable paradox or emergent properties, these properties are the key properties of complex systems, and they are the reason why these systems are limited in their predictability. What distinguishes a complex system from a merely complicated one is that some behaviors and patterns emerge in complex systems as a result of the patterns of relationship between the elements.

Complex systems are liteally woven out of many parts: the Latin complexus comes from the Greek pleko or plektos, meaning "to plait or twine". It is difficult to give a concise definition of complex systems and complexity in general, because systems are complex if they can not be described in a simple way. Various definitions of complex systems have been used. A special edition of
