    Hi all,
    I need eigen values and vectors for symmetric matrices (like VCV).
    Solving with numarray and testing the results, I've got
    strange results - input and output matrices of some sizes are
    very different. That's an example of differencies:
    Size MaxDif(E.Val) MaxDif(E.Vect)
    This is for numarray 0.7 on W2K.
    I hoped to have all the differencies below 1e-15 or so.

    In every book, you have nice things or things you don't like. There is not
    a perfect book. I should say, look in one of the encyclopedia mentioned below,
    for instance mathworld.wolfram.com and you have to decide yourself, which book you like or not. There are also electronic books, for instance www.ams.org-mathweb or main directory: www.ams.org/mathweb most of the time, this are books for the real mathematician and not so suitable for students, who have to learn the mathematics. But a look on such a site doesn't matter, may be there is something for you? You can also find dictionaries and Thesauri, these are nice if you have to write a paper and you are searching for words.
