L owPoly Character Modelling I am taking Modelling for Game Design this quarter and our final project is to model a character. I modelled a horse for the vehicle project, and the process page for it can be viewed here . I want to go even further in depth into my modeling process. I am doing this for two reasons. First and foremost is so that any potential employers looking through my work can get an idea behind my workflow. The second reason, is because so many people model WRONG! Not that my way is the only right way (but it is a right way), but that I found it to yield superior results to the process I have seen my classmates and online peers use.

Home Mapping Toolbox Participatory 3-D Modeling About Participatory 3D Modelling (P3DM) P3DM is a relatively new communicative facilitation method conceived to support collaborative processes related mainly to resource use and tenure and aimed at facilitating grassroots participation in problem analysis and decision-making. P3DM integrates people’s knowledge and spatial information (contour lines) to produce stand-alone scale relief models that have proved to be user-friendly and relatively accurate data storage and analysis devices and at the same time excellent communication media. Participatory 3D modelling works best when used jointly with Global Positioning Systems ( GPS ) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in a Participatory GIS (PGIS) context Participatory 3D models are manufactured at village level based on the merger of traditional spatial information (elevation contours) and peoples’ spatial knowledge ( cognitive maps ). Elevation contours are used as templates for cutting out sheets of carton board of a given thickness (i.e. expressing the vertical scale). Cut-out sheets are progressively superimposed to build the relief.

    PhD Findings and Conclusion
    Findings
The thesis covered the following areas :-
    • Enabling people to create software visually.
    • Creating design abstractions familiar to domain experts e.g. diagrams for engineers.
    • Ensuring interoperability using open standards.
    • Automating user to computer translation process.

This post explains how the alternative approach of User Driven Modelling/Programming used for this thesis to develop models and modelling capabilities compared to that of spreadsheet development, used within other projects. The alternative approach was outlined in this thesis, of using open standards ontologies/taxonomies and a web interface for developing decision support models for design and costing. The stepped translation approach designed and implemented in this thesis enabled structured modelling, and visualisation using interactive technologies.
    • Step 1 - Ontology
    • Step 2 - Modelling Tool
    • Step 3 - Interactive Visualisation
This stepped translation solved problems of the spreadsheet approach as indicated in the table below, and then in more detail in following sections -

CG Academy s training DVD on SubD Creature modelling - By Dominic Qwek.
    http://www.cg-academy.net/pages/topic_modelling/dvds_modelling_advanced_01/dvds_
In this DVD Dominic will take your through an advanced and structured approach to Sub-Division based creature modelling. He lays the foundation with a well planned and analyzed set of concept sketches that allow him to plan his models form from the outset. From here he builds the model in three distinct stages, with each stage forming a solid foundation for the next. Finally he takes you through some adjustments steps that give his model that extra realism and to ensure it functions well within a production pipeline.
This DVD is ideal for intermediate and above modellers with a firm understanding of the principles of Sub-Division modelling. Its an invaluable learning resource for modellers working within any production discipline.
In this chapter Dominic explains the basic setup that he uses for Sub-Db Modelling and goes on to explain which tools form the core of his modelling tools.
Chapter 02: Blocking The Basic Form
Once the model is underway Dominic shows how to create the basic form of the model, a very important stage that lays the foundation for all that follows.
Chapter 03: Primary Detailing (Lower Body)
In the nexy stage Dominic starts to apply the first level of modelling to the lower part of the body.

    Abstract
Modelling of population dynamics is the essential part of both research and management of forest pest insects. Forest pest insect models are present in all classes of population models considered in this paper: regression-, theoretical-, non-parametric-, phenology-, and life-system models both of medium and huge size. Modelling success depends on selection of appropriate complexity level that corresponds to modelling objectives and to available data. Huge models that attempt to integrate all existing knowledge about an insect species and to serve all possible purposes, become obsolete before completion and have unexpectedly limited usage because of the lack of flexibility. Simple models were shown to be efficient in simulation of stationary time-series of population dynamics. However, non-stationary population dynamics usually require more complex models. It seems most beneficial to combine models of different complexity, when complex (but not huge!) models can be used for biological interpretation of simple models. The shift in forest pest management objectives from simple (e.g., prevention of defoliation) to complex (e.g., minimization of impact or
